Poll shows Obama slightly ahead of McCain

WASHINGTON - US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has a narrow lead over Republican rival John McCain
ahead of the Democratic National Convention, which opens on Monday, a new poll shows.

The Washington Post - ABC News survey released Sunday indicated the four-point lead was almost within the margin of
error.

Among those most likely to vote, 49 percent support Obama and 45 percent back McCain, according to the poll that was
completed before the Illinois senator announced Senator Joseph Biden as his vice presidential running mate.

The survey showed Obama continued to lead on the economy, and at a better than two to one margin, voters saw him as
the more optimistic candidate.

1. Given the state of the economy, Obama should be more

than "slightly" ahead of the man that would be the third Bush administration. I think it's time Obama tell McSame and his rich friends in the controlled media, it's the economy stupid.

This election, like 2004 should be a run away for the Dems but so far they have allowed McSame and the pugs to define Obama. Joe Biden, I hope you have your gloves off and are willing to get your hands dirty. Go after McCain! Don't allow him to define himself only by his POW experience. Hold him accountable for the Keating 5 and other issues. Show that he is no friend of the Veteran. Play the clip where he is alleged to have said that if the GI bill is too generous people will not have an incentive to remain in the military.

Go for it! Working class Americans are depending upon you.

3. SLIGHTLY? 6 point lead among registered voters!

That's a substantial lead. I know this is directly from the Yahoo headline and the WP but, if McMummy had this lead, it would be presented differently, probably as a big lead. "Likely voters", a made-up word, slightly lowers the lead but it's still 4%.

I just saw MSNBC use the likely voter numbers (4%) used in a registered voters graphic. Can they really be that sloppy or is this intentional?

Hey...didn't McCain get a "substancial lead" just last week when it bumped up only 5 points? But for Obama 6 points is slight.

I still think McCains bump was because of that stupid Christian Q&A silliness. Even people who aren't fundies love to hear those fairy tales about EVIL! and how we're going to defeat it.... like no one near them participates in anything someone else might think is evil. Anyway, that bump is evaporating as time moves on and the fluff of that Q&A is justifiably forgotten.

The VP pick will not be forgotten, however. And if the "how many houses do you own" delightful scandal shifts slightly from the actual number to the fact he didn't know, we can get some more milage outta that, without lying, pairing it with other fogotten things, like who's Sunni and who's Shi'ite, or whether Czechoslovakia exists or not.

4. I don't get it.

After what the Republicans have done to this country and the world, and after it has become so apparent that McCain has no idea how most people live, nor does he care, and the fact that he clearly backs a war with Iran, how can this even be close?
