Pharmacy Draws Protest
Sad that my town has to make national headlines this way:

<http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Southwest/02/03/pharmacy.protest.ap/index.html>

The link to the local paper has a more detailed article than CNN's blurb:

<http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/drc/localnews/stories/DRC_Pharmacy_draws.7ba8c31c.html>

But it is inevitable when you have enough religious fundamentalists crawling around that something like this will happen sooner or later.

1. Some of the text from the linked article...

Protest follows denial of morning-after pill

DENTON, Texas (AP) -- About 40 people gathered outside an Eckerd
pharmacy Monday, protesting what they said was a decision to deny
a rape victim a prescription for the morning-after pill.

A spokesman for the Florida-based company confirmed that Eckerd has
taken disciplinary action in response to an incident at the store.

"Apparently there was a request for a prescription to be filled and
the prescription was denied based on a moral or ethical decision made
by the pharmacist, and that's not in accordance with our corporate
policy," said Joan Gallagher, vice president of communications for
Largo, Florida-based Eckerd Corp.

3. Store Placement For Once Is Beneficial
For once store placement truly ends up being beneficial in this disgusting story.

There is literally a Walgreen's across the street from this Eckerd's store so the woman was able to get this prescription filled in a timely manner.

Not only that, but for everyone who will be boycotting Eckerd's now there's a rival (and in my opinon better) alternative right across the street.

11. The democrats should run ads about this story.
It could create a real mess for the republican party.

6. I'm sorry that Texas pharmacy embarrassed you, but remember we can get
Texas in November if we play our cards right. This could be a real plus if played the right way. I'm glad she got the pill. That drugstore should be boycotted.

9. How very republican.
If democrats had any sense they would find a way to make this a huge story. This story needs to be used to define the republican party. Bush should be forced to address it. He would waffle and lie and alienate some of his Reich wing fundamentalist base which would hurt him in November. Maybe just as importantly, local political pressure might get some other dangerous republicans defeated around the country.
