Nuns say they aren't afraid as prison looms for anti-war protest (6-30 yrs
A prosecutor ticked off more than two dozen arrests involving three pacifist nuns Friday as he urged a federal judge to send the women to prison for damaging a Colorado missile silo last fall.

Responding to defense claims that the women aren't criminals, prosecutor Robert Brown enumerated earlier arrests of the Roman Catholic nuns at anti-war protests: Ardeth Platte, at least 10 times, Jackie Hudson five times and Carol Gilbert, at least 13 times.

"These ladies could not be deterred for the last 20 years. They will be deterred for the time the court sentences them," Brown said.

Sentencing was scheduled for later Friday. Hudson, 68, Gilbert, 55, and Platte, 66, face up to 30 years in prison, though prosecutors have recommended the minimum sentence of six to eight years.

3. Hmmm....so this is how
the "religious right" works, eh?

Putting their 'own kind' away? Well, I guess these nuns aren't 'their kind'---these nuns are wonderful women looking out for the best in the world, not trying to fatten their pockets.

They made a non-violent statement. If a hammer can irreparably damage a missle silo, then we've got problems larger than some nuns acting like hippies.

Did they break the law--yes they did. They trespassed where they weren't supposed to go.

But are you telling me that the best thing for our country in this matter is to lock these women away for 8 years or MORE?

Are they a danger to society?
Have they ever harmed Anyone else (say, beat a person on the head with a hammer rather than a missle silo)?
Have they not dedicated, in the truest way, their lives for a cause they believe in. They have performed charities and were speaking out against a very Un-Christian action on the part of our President.

Punish them--have them do Community Service---paint the silo--I don't know. But they do not deserve to be in prison. In any way shape or form.

4. Disgusting!

They are career criminals for protesting???? Let the prosecutor do three to five for criminal stupidity.

(Something tells me if these three are sentenced, that prison will never know what hit it.)

6. They were Oliged to Under the Nuremburg Protocols
Anti-nuke protestors have successfully used the Protocols as a defense in Scotland, Illnois and New York.
I am wondering why it is not being raised here as a defense...??

7. The irony of this sickens me.
George W. Bush is literally allowed to get away with mass murder! He's off playing golf while more continue to die. And, these nuns simply were protesting for peace!

I can't believe this is happening in America!
