NEWARK, New Jersey (AP) -- A civil rights suit filed against Wal-Mart by illegal immigrants was expanded Monday to accuse America's biggest retailer of locking its janitors inside stores during their shifts.

The amendment to the lawsuit comes as a federal grand jury in Pennsylvania weighs evidence to determine whether Wal-Mart will face criminal charges in the use of illegal immigrants to clean its stores.

A lawyer for Wal-Mart denied the new allegation.

INS agents raided Wal-Mart stores across the country on October 23 in a sweep that resulted in the arrest of hundreds of janitors on immigration charges.

2. Not defending Wal-Mart
but I've worked in two retail stores and we were locked in after closing time too (counting receipts and preparing deposits). The doors had deadbolts which locked with a key and we needed the manager to let us out. Wal-Mart is not the only store that does this.

3. Then the policy needs to be reviewed nationally.
Someone inside MUST have a way to leave.

4. Wasn't there a chicken processing plant in NC that caught fire
maybe 10-15 years ago? A dozen or more people died because they were LOCKED inside and had no way to escape. I believe the owner went to prison for that...

To lock people in a store, without panic bars, where a key is required to exit, is beyond my comprehension. Who could be so morally bankrupt? Who needs employees so desperately that they have to LOCK them in? Who needs a job so bad that they would submit to this indenture? What the hell has this country come to?

It's sickening.

All you need is doors that lock on the outside but can still be opened on the inside - like almost all modern business buildings have.

7. Nothing New
Just recently a guy injured himself while working on the graveyard stocking shift at a Sam's Club (a wal-mart sub). NO ONE had a key to unlock the door to get medical attention. He had to wait for nearly 2 hours before a manager could come and unlock the doors to let him out.

Wal-mart=Evil Empire, an Evil Empires with a SMILE!!!

11. TWO HOURS for medical help? Suppose he'd cut an artery?
Why didn't someone call 911 or the fire department? The least they can do is have one person on the premises who HAD a key!

12. I think you mean the guy with the crushed ankle
and actually, he could have gotten out, but Wallmart specifically instructed its employees that if anyone left through the fire exit for ANY reason other than a fire, they'd be terminated. So, fearful of losing his job, he waited there in pain and risked irreversable injury foir two hours.

8. I have never shopped at a Wal-Mart..
I believe Sam Walton is turning in his grave. Ever since the expose` on the "Made in America" campaign they had many years ago. They had these signs on every display saying "Made in America" yet everything on the shelves was from Malaysia or wherever. So they went to the supplier in Malaysia (or wherever) and found children living in the factory and working mega hours for peanuts. The factory owners charged them for rent and meals and they ended up with very little at the end of the day. I also remember them talking to a manager or owner who told them he would put labels in the garments to indicate they were made somewhere else if the (undercover) buyer wanted.
I will NEVER shop at Wal-Mart. EVER. EVER. You'll have to pry the credit card from my cold dead hands.

9. I will not shop Wal-Mart
It was on CNN that Wal-Mart is the 2nd largest contibutor to the Repuke party in this election cycle, that is because as the largest private employer it does not want "labor pains"
