3. Student Found Dead at Miami-Dade School
MIAMI -- A 14-year-old student was found dead Tuesday in a restroom at a public middle school and the school was locked down as a precaution.

However, authorities had not classified the 14-year-old boy's death at Southwood Middle School as suspicious, said police Sgt. Dennis Morales.

Morales said other students found the boy's body in a boys' restroom at about 8:30 a.m., but said police were not releasing any details on how he died.

Students were locked in their classrooms with their teachers as a precaution and a crisis management team was working with administrators, said Mayco Villafana, a Miami-Dade schools spokesman.

"Every student in this school is safe" Villafana said.

More than 150 worried parents gathered outside the school.

Southwood, which opened in 1976, was the county's first magnet school, specializing in visual and performing arts for students in grades six, seven and eight. About 2,000 students attend the school.

4. Poor parents
There was a violent death last year at our local high school. They locked down, but the news leaked out and parents flocked to the school. It was some time before the dead child's parents could be notified and the threat could be assessed. The parents were going nuts waiting to find out if their own children were safe.

I feel for the parents at this school and the agony they must be going through.

6. my god
it is so hard to be a parent today. You never know who what were or when. I would never survive a death/murder at my sons school. I don't know how others do

23 years ago when i first gave birth I never thought school would be a place of violence. Maybe my head was in the sand but this is so unacceptable. what the hell are we going to do about it!! other than read the god damn papers

We need a leader! someone with values and feelings for others and so much more

Police: Death of Student at Miami-Dade County School a Homicide

By Coralie Carlson
The Associated Press

MIAMI
A 14-year-old middle school student was killed Tuesday and police were questioning a school mate after the teen's body was discovered in the school bathroom.

Jaime Rodrigo Gough, a student at Southwood Middle School, was found severely injured by students in a boys' restroom at about 8:30 a.m., Miami-Dade Police Director Carlos Alvarez said. Alvarez said Gough suffered "severe trauma" from "some sort of cutting incident."

Alvarez said authorities had "located what we believe to be the weapon used in the homicide." Police were awaiting search warrants as part of their investigation.

Alvarez said the suspect was in custody at the police department's homicide bureau. He said the student has not been charged.
