Area layoffs continue (Atlanta)
http://www.news-daily.com/articles/2004/02/03/news/news2.txt

excerpt:

The Georgia Department of Labor reports that 5,743 more people in metro-Atlanta signed up for unemployment insurance benefits in December 2003 than in November. Department of Labor spokesman Sam Hall said that number is a leading economic indicator, because it measures the number of newly laid-off workers.

Clayton County's unemployment numbers remain higher than most surrounding counties, with the Department of Labor reporting 7,472 people looking for a job out of a work force of 144,609. That is 5.2 percent.

"We're still seeing some major layoffs," Hall said. "And the problem is a lack of job creation."

2. Keep this in mind when Georgia votes to re-hire the head boob-in-charge
Keep this in mind when Georgia votes to re-hire the head boob-in-charge
come November.

(And yes, I realize that "Metro Atlanta" may have a differeent
opinion, but Georgia as a whole will almost certainly vote to
re-hire.)

Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 09:38 AM by onehandle
No one I know is even seriously looking for another job. If they have a job, they are holding on for dear life (including me).

I can't imagine what it must be like elsewhere.

4. Quiet as it's kept, Murdoch has laid off an entire level of VPs at DirecTV
Most of these folks never wanted to work for the grinch anyway but they were let go and notified by an article in the company newsletter. What would the Donald think about that as excellent management?

At any rate, these mergers are to accomplish two things: control and huge profits at the expense of the customer and workers. We just love how this economy is booming back!

6. I guess this would not happen if we all became Republicans.
But after considering that very thought - death somehow loses its sting.
