Obama's July fundraising bodes well for fall race
Source: Associated Press

CHICAGO - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama raised more than $51 million in July and the Democratic National Committee reported $27.7 million in donations last month, putting Obama in a strong position for the fall campaign.

Obama began August with $65.8 million on hand and the DNC had $28.5 million available, according to statements released Saturday. His July total was slightly less than the $52 million he raised in June but still eye-popping because he was off the fundraising circuit at home during his trip to the Middle East and Europe.

Obama's Internet-powered fundraising efforts have shattered all previous records for a presidential campaign, bringing in a total of $390 million so far. The Illinois senator has announced he will forgo public financing for the general election, giving up $84 million in taxpayer dollars for the final two months of the campaign and committing himself to a steady pace of fundraising.

By contrast, Republican candidate John McCain has raised just $140 million and has agreed to accept public financing for the general election and the spending restraints that come with it. Unlike Obama, McCain will not feel the intense pressure to raise money in the fall.

1. The media has an interest in keeping Obama down, making it imperative that he raises and
spends money to advertise.

2. and yet they contradict themselves within two paragraphs
if he feels so much pressure, why did he raise nearly twice as much as mccain while spending a quarter of the month outside the us? haha, they're so lame.

but not as lame as the giants, wink-wink

3. They can play words on the dollars all they want
Obama has the cash and the donors

Obama Cash raised: $390 Million
McCain Cash raised: $140 Million

Obama has out raised McCain by 36%

Donors
Obama 2 Million
McCain 600,000

Obama has more people donating to his campaign by more than 2 to 1

If it were not for the GOP and our tax dollars, McCain would not be able to afford the dirty advertising he has been running. Then they still have to steal music and images to use in their campaign.

7. Your math is a little off, l-n-p
O:$390M M:$140M = Obama has outraised McSame by 179%

O:2 Million donors M:600,000 donors = Obama has more donors by more than 3 to 1

Don't be such a pessimist!

4. don't know what's up in other areas
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 03:08 PM by northernlights
but in mine, the dems opened their county headquarters near the "downtown" area of a major tourist village (the choice is either tourist villages or poor fishing villages around here). The rethugs opened theirs in my village :puke: on the coastal highway. So people may spot theirs as they whiz by (nobody stops here except residents), but many, many residents and visitors will walk by ours on their vacations.

The funniest thing I saw was on our "town day" the gop held a fundraising yard sale in town. It was competing with a zillion other yard sales, and not doing to well from what I could see.

What idjits to call it a "gop" yard sale -- they drove off more than half their potential customers with their sign
I can just imagine them rubbing their hands as they planned it, thinking they'll outdo Obama's internet raising with a yard sale!

liber'l, ya need to check your math or restate your stats. Obama:McCain 390:140 is more like Obama outraised McCain by 279%, not 36%. McCain has only raised about 36% of what Obama has raised. or, Obama has outraised McCain 2.79:1.

$52 million in June. June has ONE LESS DAY THAN JULY!!!!! He is losing his base. Just another celebrity flash in the pan....
