Helen Thomas out of hospital, recuperating at home
Source: New York Daily News

....White House Correspondent Helen Thomas’s quiet stay in a D.C. hospital is finally over.

The 88-year-old dean of the White House press corps and columnist for Hearst newspapers collapsed on stage in May while delivering a commencement address and getting and honorary degree at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. She had been hospitalized since then.

(Diane Nine of Nine Speakers Bureau) says, "Helen is home today and is very happy to be there." And the answer to the million dollar question: "Yes, she definitely plans to get back to work as soon as she can. She can’t wait, actually."...

- Ken Bazinet

PRESS RELEASE: Washington, DC — Dean of the White House Press Corps and Hearst Columnist, Helen Thomas, is being released from Sibley Hospital’s Renaissance Center for Rehabilitation today. Thomas will continue to recuperate at home before returning to work and resuming her column. Thomas suffered from a colon infection which sidelined her for several months. She is expected to make a full recovery, and said, “I look forward to returning to the fray sooner, rather than later.”

During her recuperation, Helen Thomas will be working on her next book. She is the author of five other books, including her new children’s work (co-authored with syndicated editorial cartoonist, Chip Bok), "The Great White House Breakout." Thomas is also the subject of an upcoming HBO documentary by Rory Kennedy, "Thank You, Mr. President." The film airs on HBO on Monday, August 18th at 9:00 pm.

After being relegated to the back row, Thomas was at last called upon March 21 by George Bush. Right off, Thomas put him on notice: “You’re going to be sorry.”

“I’d like to ask you, Mr. President, your decision to invade Iraq has caused the deaths of thousands of Americans and Iraqis, wounds of Americans and Iraqis for a lifetime. Every reason given, publicly at least, has turned out not to be true. My question is, why did you really want to go to war? From the moment you stepped into the White House, from your Cabinet—your Cabinet officers, intelligence people, and so forth—what was your real reason? You have said it wasn’t oil—quest for oil, it hasn’t been Israel, or anything else. What was it?”

The President proceeded to rollerblade away from the question.

............. For her decades of tenacity, and her most recent upstartism, Thomas was surprised with about 38 dozen roses last week, a gift from a group called Democratic Underground. “Thank you Ms. Thomas,” the organization wrote, “for asking the President the questions all Americans want answered about Iraq! Thank you for always siding on the side of truth and asking for others to do the same! We’ve got your back!”

...........

7. Post Script
You should do well. 88 is a very lucky number to the Chinese. Keep in mind what the Chinese say. "Our soccer team sucks and they should go raise pigs."

I'm not sure what that means but they've been saying it a lot recently.

12. That's the first news I've heard of her in quite some time.
It was very troubling to have her absent from the White House briefing room and hear nothing about her condition. It's great to know she's on the mend.

Dana Perino, take notice! The free ride is over.
