Lieberman To Travel To Georgia Amid Russian Conflict (Logan Act Violation)

Source: Hartford Courant

WASHINGTON — - Sen. Joe Lieberman will travel to Georgia on a "fact-finding mission" in the midst of that country's new conflict with neighboring Russia.

Lieberman, a member of the Senate armed services committee and chairman of the homeland security committee, will accompany a bipartisan group of senators, according to his office. The timing of the trip was still being worked out Thursday afternoon, but Lieberman's staff said the group will depart as soon as possible.

"We are developing the itinerary right now and, for security reasons, cannot disclose anything yet," said Erika Masonhall, Lieberman's spokewoman.

McCain already thinks he is President. Lieberman should be arrested for Logan Act violations. This is serious business.

McCain is uppity and doesn't know his place.

Read it someplace else and that person wrote Baker Act.

Baker Act is the law to involuntarily commit somebody!

5. Interesting...
Could someone involuntarily commit Congress? Just lock the doors. And send in Nurse Ratchet. And then lose the keys.

14. Perhaps they could involuntarily commit James Baker III?
It might solve MANY problems...

it might be a step in the right direction!

Liebermann will subdue the Russians by boring them to death. He will be like a dead zone in the see travelling in front of a great host fleeing for oxygen.

They were in hysterics. For the record I agree with you but if there ever was a near violation this would seem to be it.

34. Yes, I really do.
Because the wide stance party will never believe in collegiality
and bi-partisanism until a sizable minority of them are in prison.

Then, when the constitution has been completely restored, and the malefactors are rotting in a prison somewhere like Gitmo, we can re-establish two party government.

Otherwise the Rovians will say that they opened the freemarket Overton window farther.

We need to slam it on their dicks, and then we can play nicey nicey.

40. The offense of the Logan is in negotiating -not authorized
to do so. McCain has been calling him for days weeks prior to outbreak, armed force into osettia--his surrogatee Rove/evor has been meeting w/ Saakash, Schueneman communicating w/..and advising mcwar-obsessed.

15. He's leavin' (leavin') on a Midnight Train to Georgia. Bought a one way ticket . . .
He kept dreamin'
That someday he'd be a star.
But he sure found out the hard way
That dreams don't always come true.
So he pawned all his hopes
and he even sold his old car
Bought a one way ticket . . .

OK, great line to stop at.

Holy Joe would never make it as a Pip.

20. I thought Lieberman and Graham were already over there, without
any reason to be there. Pathetic imo.

Yet when the Speaker of the House went to Syria, Israel, etc., she was at fault and tarnished for going somewhere not too cool? Different strokes, eh.

26. I'v often wondered about that.
Funny how so many "facts" that our congresscritters have to travel to "find" are located in places like
Hawaii, Rio, Europe, etc. At least we can give Lieberman credit for having balls enough to risk his life in a war-torn area. Probably doing it for nothing, though.

36. Biden is heading for Georgia as well
Senator Joe Biden, a top Obama surrogate who's being discussed as a potential Veep for Obama, just announced that he'll be visiting Georgia, too, in addition to key McCain surrogates Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham.

"I am going to Georgia this weekend to get the facts first-hand and to show my support for Georgia's people and its democratically-elected government," Biden said in a statement released today. "I look forward to reporting to my colleagues in the Senate and on the Foreign Relations Committee, as well as the Administration, about what I learn."

The move, which is likely to stir even more speculation about Biden's Veep chances, could play in Obama's favor. The Illinois Senator would almost certainly like one of his key foreign policy allies to visit Georgia, too, at a time when McCain is trying to usurp the commander-in-chief role with regard to the Russia-Georgia crisis by talking to the lead actors in the crisis almost daily and dispatching his own campaign allies to the region.

Late Update: Biden is going at the request of Georgia's President.
