The truth behind No 10's intelligence
http://news.scotsman.com/politics.cfm?id=132642004

Tue 3 Feb 2004

MENTAL chess is a favourite game for politicians, and by Sunday night a grim chain of events could be foreseen by 10 Downing Street when it became clear that George Bush, the United States president, was to hold an independent inquiry into intelligence on Iraq.

<snip>

It is also a safe bet that the final report may blame Tony Blair and Britain, as happened when Mr Bush was lambasted for repeating the Prime Minister’s incorrect claim that Saddam Hussein was scouring Niger for uranium.

Any politician can see what’s coming: a bombshell for Mr Blair detonating after Mr Bush has been re-elected, but just before Britain is expected to go to the polls in May 2005.

So how does the Prime Minister escape? Answer: beat the US to it by setting up a British inquiry - and one that will probably point the finger at the CIA.

more...

Oh, it just getting deeper and deeper. Bu$h has opened up a big can of worms trying to save his butt with his 'independent' investigation. Now Tony is back on the hot seat and may not want to take the fall for his good buddy George. Seems that 'sexed up dossier' was mostly based on old info that they got from CIA sources. Let the finger pointing begin.

1. Sounds good, but we have been sandbagged before
We will watch and hope for the falling out of the thieves with great anticipation. Note the final paragraph of the article, which implies the old "all intelligence agencies were wrong" song and dance will be presented.

"Why so much overlap? Because all intelligence agencies the world over were in the dark about Iraq - and ended up copying each other. Few came from London. It’s embarrassing for Mr Blair to admit, but the answers to his dossier mystery lie on the other side of the Atlantic."

2. The blamestorming is starting.....
I posted this in another thread, but it fits here....

"Australia's Defence Minister, Robert Hill, says there is no need for an independent inquiry here because Australia relied on intelligence from America and Britain."

http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/s1036995.htm

John Howard and his "conga line of suckholes" are pointing fingers at GW* and Tony.

It seems "We don't need no steenkin investigation.... because it was those guys over there"
