Halliburton Branch to Pause Meal Billing
AP Wire

February 2, 2004, 5:35 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- A Halliburton Co. subsidiary has agreed to stop billing the government for feeding U.S. troops in Kuwait until the two sides settle what the company says is an accounting dispute. Pentagon auditors are raising the possibility of overcharging.

Halliburton said in a statement Monday that its Kellogg Brown & Root subsidiary agreed to suspend billing "while the company works with the government to improve the counting method" for meals served.

Isn't privitization grand. We can pay millions of dollars more to feed the troops crappy food, than when the army did it themselves.

2. Halliburton = War profiteering experts
Remember back in the old days when war profiteering was illegal? Ahh, memories.

3. This is way past insane, but I don't know what the next dimension is.
This is A PATTERN OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. This company consistently defrauds the government. What in the hell is going on here? This is racketeering. Someone should start looking into charges under the RICO statutes. Jeez.

4. What do you expect?

Clinton issued an executive order that denied government contracts to those that defrauded the government. Halliburton had defrauded the government before to the tune of millions of dollars.

Bush rescinded Clinton's executive order and within weeks Halliburton received its first crony deal with the "new Cheney government." Surprising how things work - NOT.

5. First, make all 535 reps and senators and all members of the
Supreme Court and all members of the admin branch eat ONLY the exact same thing being fed the troops every day. I'll bet we'd get a bit more interest then!

6. I love this "No problem, we'll just pay it back" thing they have going.
It seems whenever they get called on any "irregularity," they just say, oh don't worry, we'll give it back. Never any consequences, never any stop in the flow of war profit for them.

What a wonderful world it would be if we could all grab as much as we want and then just "pay it back" if somebody happened to object. No problem. It would really simplify the judicial system. No need for sentencing guidelines, three-strikes-and-you're out, any of that unpleasant stuff.
