Israel asks State Department to delay human rights report
Israel asks State Department to delay human rights report

BARRY SCHWEID, AP Diplomatic Writer
Monday, February 2, 2004
(02-02) 13:59 PST WASHINGTON (AP) --

Israel has asked the State Department to postpone its annual human rights report for fear it could be used by the International Court of Justice against the security barrier the Israelis are building.

A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Israeli request was under consideration.

Department spokesman Richard Boucher, when asked about an article in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz disclosing the request, said he was "not aware of anything like that."

Boucher also said the department intended to present the report on time, at the end of February.

Another U.S. official said Israel worried contentions that its security barrier interfered with the lives of Palestinians might be reflected in the human rights report and influence the court in The Hague, The Netherlands.

3. But wait a minute.
Even the Bush Administration is on record as opposed to the "security barrier." Powell has publicly gone on record saying the U.S. wants the wall building to stop. Why would this even be considered?

6. And as the Daleks used to say when given orders...
"I WILL OBEY!"

What's a little loss of human rights between such special friends?

7. Despicable. And typical.
Shameful.

The Israeli people really deserve better leaders than the Likud party.
