Bush to pick panel for WMD inquiry
Daschle questions whether commission will be independent

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush said Monday he would appoint a presidential commission to review U.S. intelligence on the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Responding to political pressure, Bush told reporters at a Cabinet meeting he wanted to look at prewar intelligence and the findings of the Iraq Survey Group -- the U.S. team hunting for weapons programs in the country.

"I think that it is important for us to have an independent commission, as I've said now on several occasions, but it truly should be independent," Daschle said.

"It sounds as if the president is going to call for one where he gets to appoint each of the members and dictate the design and ultimately the circumstances under which they do their work."
</snip>

Doesn't sound too "independent" to me!

Daschle, I'm glad to see you slowly getting off your skinny spineless ass to fight this. If you don't, I'll come down to Washington DC and personally throw you out on your ear. Another goddamn whitewash. :(

edit: pardon my language.

4. WTF!!!! is right!!!!!
It's unfortunate that these types of things have to happen in order for more liberal minded people to wake the fuck up to the fact that we have no Democratic opposition. They are the same as the Republicans. They just fight for power. The ideals we clamor over here at DU and other places around the net, mean little to either side.

Of course there are a few individuals that try to do the right thing. But on the whole, both sides represent business. They respond to the 'rabble' when they want or need us to do something like rubber stamp an election.

This outrage, at Daschle's refusal to ever speak up, is getting old. That is why candidates like Kucinich are the only real way out of this crap. If we elect Dean or Kerry or any of these guys that favor war, we're going to end up crying over the same crap in a couple of years. The Dems don't work for liberals, they work for business, just like the Republicans.

Only different factions of the business sector.

14. Agree absolutely. Fred D
But you know, Kucinich and those like him are just too good for the job, just too ahead of his time. Just let the whole rotten enterprise collapse on its own, and it will collapse, and then the time will come for a good and wise Kucinich to build something really good and meaningful out of the wreckage, something totally opposite of the inbred debauched political and power system that is killing this republic in front of our eyes.

3. This quote is mind-boggling
What we don't know yet is what we thought and what the Iraqi Survey Group has found."

If he doesn't know yet what he thought, when will he know what he thinks?

Beam me up, Scotty! NOW!

"What we don't know yet is (the difference between) what we thought (about WMD Pre-Invasion) and what the ISG found (a big fat nothing).* We need an interpreter when he speaks.

11. Hitler appoints commission to investigate intelligence about Poland Attack
Amid growing controversary about the accuracy of reports that Poland attacked Germany prior to the German counterattack in September, 1939, Chancellor Hitler said Monday he would appoint a chancellor commission to review German intelligence on the Polish attack against Germany. The Chancellor told reporters, "There is no one who wants to find out the truth about the Polish attack more than myself. In fact, this investigation is so important to me that I am thinking of having it led by Joseph Goebbels, who is recognized as being relentless in finding out the truth in matters such as this."

This is a desperate move to contain this. With the polls against him, I don't think that he has the strength to run the game. We will see.

13. this is actually funny
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 05:06 PM by Marianne
here we have Bush, the village idiot, out of favor, lying at every bend in the road, attempting to take control of this "investigation" by appointing it's members. It is really funny if you think of it. When he goes to bed, does he think he is really in charge of anything at all? He is NOT and the more he attempts to be a dictator the deeper he sinks. We Americans do NOT like this at all from a stupid man who was not even elected and who took this country into two wars, neither of which have been successful and have only been slaughters of innocent people without accomplishing any one goal.

He is a laughable clown, but at the same time is an armed and dangerous clown who probably is mentally ill and someon should say t hat outright and face the truthl

This man is a coward, a despicable , little twit of a coward, who runs from danger and at the same time attempts to spin that into a meme that he is indeed, a very brave, macho Texas, tough guy, tough talking guy, who struts about on aircraft carriers in total falsehood.

I wonder how long it took him to adopt that "strut" Ever notice how simian he looks in that "strut"? I mean really, take a long look. The palms of his hands are facing backwards like a chimpanzee would walk upright, and his ass is probably sticking out far beyond where it is supposed to be in order to compensate for the elbows out, palms backwards gait, causing his knees to be mis alligned at the same time.

This guy has got to be taken out of this government. He is a phoney, a farce, a dumb idiot, a disgrace to anything we have ever stood for as a nation, and a liar. And when he goes, he should take his rictus smiling, dumassed Stepford wife with him.
