Gore's Son Sentenced to Drug Program
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - The 21-year-old son of former Vice President Al Gore must complete substance abuse counseling as part of a pretrial diversion program to settle a marijuana possession charge.

The agreement approved by a judge Monday calls for the misdemeanor charge to be dropped after a year if Albert Gore III submits to urine testing, community service and counseling, and steers clear of criminal convictions.

The younger Gore, who attends Harvard University, had no comment after the brief hearing. He was accompanied by his mother, Tipper Gore, who did not comment other than saying the issue was a ``private matter.'' Gore did not have to enter a plea and his case was placed on the inactive docket.

Gore was charged with marijuana possession, as were the two passengers in the car, Yann V. Kumin, 21, and Marc G. Hordon, 22, both of Cambridge, Mass.

Hordon and Kumin will undergo the same treatment program as Gore, prosecutor Douglas Gansler said.

2. C'mon Al....is your son a criminal? Do you really believe that
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 02:34 PM by Old and In the Way
this is the America you want to live in? When will enough be enough? Take your bully pulpit and use this example as to why the current "War on Drugs" is a war on America. Let's stop funding the anti-drug lobbyists who make careers on criminalizing non-criminal behaviour.

Isn't it a tad bit ironic that we make a harmless natural happy drug like pot illegal, but we allow Big Pharma to make billions marketing happy purple pills that are essentially made to do the same thing?

President Bush just ended his substance abuse program, ending his protracted fight with cocaine and highlighter sniffing.

10. Maybe Gore's Son Invented Marijuana
Has anyone inquired into whether or not he invented the stuff. Cuz if that's the case, I don't think having it should be punishable.

Who's with me.

11. Well, in all fairness...
...having mocked Jeb Bush mightily for his daughter's crack problem; and Dubya for his daughters' booze problem; not to mention Dubya himself for his cocaine years...

...it so happens that I've worked all that bad-parenting-leads-to-drugs mockery out of my system, and, yes -- Jesus be praised! -- I no longer feel the urge to deride my fellow man for his failings, nor to caustically denounce or viciously upbraid! Why, thanks to the opportunities for sarcasm and bile provided so amply by the bad behavior of Republican waistrels, I'm. . .a new man! After this day, only nice posts from me!

So in that spirit, my deepest sympathies, Al, and I hope this doesn't make it harder for him to score. ;-)
