Drug-laced lollipops being sold, police say

Published February 2, 2004

CHICAGO -- Marquette District police officers are warning the public about drug-laced candy suckers being sold in the neighborhood.

The suckers, sold for $10 a piece, have tested positive for THC, the narcotic agent in marijuana, and PCP, according to a news release from Chicago Police Department spokesman Dave Bayless.

More (but not much) at the Chicago Tribune

2. I caught an episode of COPs last night . . .
. . . (well early this morning when I couldn't sleep).

This HUGE guy went on a crazy naked rampage breaking glass and spraying people with fire extinguishers.

After he had calmed down in the back of the cop car, he confessed to smoking a "wet daddy" which turned out to be a PCP soaked joint.

Those lollipops sound scary. I can't imagine anyone intentionally ingesting PCP.

TYY

4. "Warning the public"?
Give me a break. If you need to be "warned" that there may be more than sugar in a lollipop that costs $10.... :eyes:

"First hit is free, kid!"

You know what, no it fucking isn't. Dealers kinda like to make money, and there are always customers.

Drugs advertise themselves, you don't need a marketing campaign and free samples.

10. Maybe you are thinking of the "truthout" anti-cigarette commerical
"Glass-Shard freeze pops."

If someone cuts their tongue by licking a lolipop that has a razor blade sticking out of it that they paid $10 for there is something drastically wrong.

11. I love when you hear bullshit stories like these...
but somehow, you never see a single incident of some kid biting a razor blade on the evening news.

Reminds me of the Halloween candy scare stories... in decades of trick or treating, the sum total of "poison candy" incidents added up to what, ONE?

14. I think it was one incident, right and in that case
the kid knew the perp. It wasn't anonymus.

23. 5 years working evenings in a class I trauma center ER
And I didnt see anything like what the urban myths said.
What I did see was a lot of kids who got drunk and smashed up their cars, often smashing up cars not driving by drunks.

15. These have been in existence for a long time
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=lollipops+cannabis&spell=1

Why the CPD is sounding an "alarm" now is anyone's guess, because as someone pointed out, they're not exactly giving these away.

There is a real danger that some idiot would leave one of his hash lollies around and a small child could get hold of it. Small children can have a very bad reaction to cannibis.

Sprinkle it with dew
Dust it in PCP and a sprinkle of THC or two
