Lieberman Helps Out Democrats With $100,000 Check
Source: AHN

Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has given $100,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) to try to appease angry Democrats angry over his refusal to support Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), according to a report by Politico.

Lieberman gave the check to DSCC Chairman Chuck Schumer because "he wants to keep his committee," an unidentified Democrat is quoted in the report.

The four-term senator is a former Democrat who serves as a high-profile campaign surrogate for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). A growing movement to remove him as head of the Senate Homeland Security and Public Works Committee began last month.

(snip)

Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-NV) had been non-committal about the prospects of Lieberman retaining his chairmanship next year, telling CNN last month, ""Let's talk about this year. Anytime we have a problem here, with the exception of Iraq, Joe Lieberman is with us. So I wish people would leave him alone... we'll get to next year when we get there.

Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 08:36 AM by Tandalayo_Scheisskop
Just make it known that if The Silly Little Man speaks to the repuke convention, his ass is grass and Harry Reid is the lawnmower. Then thank him for the money and dole it out to dem candidates.

Problem solved. All responsibility is on The Silly Little Man's shoulders.

27. Keep the money
Consider it a downpayment on damage he has done already, and damage he will
try (though probably not succeed) doing by speaking at the Republican convention.

However, if he thinks he can buy his continued position as a ranking Democrat in
the Senate after endorsing a Republican for president, I think (and hope) he is
mistaken. Not even T. Boone Pickens has enough money to buy THAT.

34. Fuck Sen. Joe Liebermann...
and if they let this piece of scum get away with buying his chairmanship, it will confirm what many already think (know) about money and politics. I say cash his check, use it to support Obama, and kick him out of the party as soon as we pick up one more seat in the Senate. It's OK to disagree with your party from time to time, and I can even respect that if it is because it's what someone sincerely believes. But to openly and actively support the REPUBLICAN presidential candidate is miles beyond acceptable, and is treason to your own party, and should be grounds for expulsion. I realize why they couldn't do it with the thin majority they had, but pick up even one seat and kick his ass out. While I can even appreciate what Chuck (gave us Mukasey) Schumer is saying, some things are just going too far, and require that you stand on principle. Let Joe run as an independent or republican, and put a good solid Democrat in his seat when it comes up for reelection.

Oh, except when he left the party to defeat the Dem who took the nomination., then buddied up to the GOP for years, casting his influential vote for them time and again.
But now that is appears his GOP ties could drag him down, let's all remember that he was a DEM all along.

As it looks increasingly unlikely that McCain will pick him as running mate and that McCain will win even if he did, Joe's gotta have a fallback position; he'd love to be able to buy his way back in to full membership in the Democratic clubhouse, and it's people like us that need to be vigilant against this happening, as he obviously has the money and power to try to do so.

I'm sure they took the check. Which they shouldn't have.

Anyone who doesn't support the Dem. nominee doesn't belong on a Democratic committee, representing Dem. interests. OTOH, the pipsqueak Reid has a point...you don't want to alienate someone who votes on your side sometimes. Never know when you'll need that vote.

It's a predicament. But I consider him a Repub now, as should the pipsqueak and Schumer.

75. exactly. keep the money, but don't accept the bribe.
the morality of accepting bad money has always perplexed me.

a campaign can take money from an upstanding person. but if the donor is found out to be a criminal the first thing the campaign does is hand over money to the criminal! what kind of logic is that? you wouldn't hand over money to the upstanding person, but you would hand it over to the criminal?

the only way it makes sense, of course, is that the campaign doesn't want to appear influenced by the criminal's contribution. which, in turn, only makes sense if we all acknowledge that campaign contributions are bribes.

81. Return His Bribe...
... and get him the hell off those committees. Reid and Pelosi have let us down big time, and their acceptance of Traitor Joe is near the top of the list of "actions" of theirs that only help the enemy.
And make no mistake; mcsame and pals ARE the enemy.

83. The DSCC might want to double-check that the funds weren't funneled through AIPAC or Likud
Lieberman is the best Senator that the rightwingers in Israel could buy.
