Cal Bans TG Discrimination

The transgendered will for the first time have civil rights protections in California. The state comes the fourth in the US to ban discrimination based on gender characteristics.

The Senate voted 23 -11 Thursday to add gender identify to the list of categories protected in the areas of housing and employment in the state. The bill had already passed the Assembly. It now goes to Gov Gray Davis for his signature.

Christian conservative groups had called on Davis not to sign any LGBT legislation until after the recall issue is resolved (story) but, Equality California executive director Geoffrey Kors said he expects Davis to ignore the plea and sign the bill.
