Obama Incites Republicans With New North Carolina Black Voters
Source: Bloomberg

The North Carolina waterfront community of Elizabeth City witnessed an early skirmish in a high-stakes political battle over registering new black voters, which may help decide the outcome of the presidential election.

Republican voter Richard Gilbert last year challenged the eligibility of several students at historically black Elizabeth City State University to vote in a municipal election. The local elections board dismissed Gilbert's complaint that students are only temporary residents in the town of about 20,000 people.

Similar fights over voter qualifications will be waged this year, particularly in southern states, as Democrat Barack Obama's drive to register hundreds of thousands of new black voters clashes with Republican suspicions that get-out-the-vote efforts recruit people who aren't eligible to cast ballots.

``If the Democrats are to have any chance at all of carrying this state, it will only be because of a much larger-than-normal and completely united black vote,'' said David Rohde, a political science professor at Duke University in Durham.

7. They were going to go with another synonym
Such as "exite" or "arouse," but these have positive connotations.

They really should have said "are really, really afraid of."

13. If you are incited because there are new voters, then you are an anti-democratic POS.

3. Incites?
When all Obama is doing is encouraging black people to vote?

The word INCITES in this context is racist in my opinion.

12. Durn tootin'.
A working class white person, or even a middle class white person, has more in common with his or her african-american brothers and sisters than he or she would ever have with a member of The New Plutocracy. This melanin-based initiative to keep people divided only serves The New Plutocracy and does nothing for any of us one-fodder-units, save keeping us distracted and at each other's throats.

Wanna stay rich and get richer? Keep people separated and fighting over the crumbs.

so obama is inciting things by inspiring people to vote? ha ha. the republicans need to learn to read. the DoJ spent millions researching voter fraud (democratic, of course) and even fired people who refused to make up evidence of it. Guess what? They found nothing! their own lawyers, after years of investigating, say voter fraud is a Republican myth designed to disenfranchise a certain class of voters. Damn Obama for actually making voters feel like they might want to vote. Way to go, North Carolina.

6. The Republican distaste for democracy
is nowhere more apparent than in their attempts to suppress the vote.

8. We know what to expect:
``The degree of caffeination of the lawyers involved in this, at least on the Democratic side, is higher than I've ever seen it.''

We're also going to have so many new registrants they don't have the time to disqualify them all, and they won't be able to purge here.

10. Oh, Bloomberg, Knock It Off

Does "pro-business" have to mean "ridiculously, blatantly racist"? Cute headline, a-holes.

15. Another Thing Obama Did Wrong?
What does the story say Obama did again? And why is everyone so sure that all African Americans who are trying to register will be voting for Obama? A significant number of African Americans voted for 43 in 2000 and 2004.

Meanwhile, where is the new Martin Luther King? It's 2008 and we still need Freedom Marches? This is disgusting.

17. Republican victories require voter suppression.
Why is that?
