Obama leads McCain nationally in AP-Ipsos poll
Source: The Associated Press

Solid margins among women, minorities and young voters have powered Barack Obama to a 6 percentage point lead over John McCain in the presidential race, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Obama is ahead of his Republican rival 47 percent to 41 percent, The Associated Press-Ipsos poll showed. The survey was taken after the Democratic senator from Illinois had returned from a trip to Middle Eastern and European capitals, and during a week that saw the two camps clash over which had brought race into a campaign in which Obama is striving to become the first African-American president.

McCain, the senator from Arizona, is leading by 10 points among whites and is even with Obama among men, groups with whom Republicans traditionally do well in national elections.

Obama leads by 13 points among women, by 30 points among voters up to age 34, and by 55 points among blacks, Hispanics and other minorities, the poll shows.

2. I believe this poll is closer to reality than the others and
I still think it will be an Obama landslide in November :-).

3. I would love it if Obama won by a landslide
but I will be ecstatic if we get a Dem president by 1 vote. Look at the damage Bush did after losing the popular vote.

5. I'll settle for one vote too
:-). I plan on doing my part to get out the vote, but on election day I'll be working at the polls. It will be a wonderful day to say good riddance to Bush.

4. How utterly SURPRISING!
(NOT)

See Gallup? This is what happens when you DON'T skew your sample numbers in favor of Republican voters, but instead have a sample that correlates with the actual population.

See how that works?

6. They finally polled some younger people..
this is Obama's strength. Actually, I'll be happy if they keep skewing the polls toward McCain, it give repubs a false sense that they're doing better than they are.

I also predict Obama will ultimately win big.

16. If They Keep Skewing the Polls Towards McCain, The Repiggies Can STEAL IT Again!!!
We know they can steal millions of votes. They stole about 5% last time. Could they have stolen more if they had to? Probably.
The only thing that can possibly prevent them from doing so is if McLame is so far behind in the polls that it is obvious he can't possibly win.

The polls do matter a lot more than we would like to admit.

18. Obama will have to fundamentally change the electorate to win..
we know that, but I think if anybody has the potential to do it, he will. With issues like gas prices and the economy, people will feel strongly enough to come out to the polls. I think MANY young people will be moved enough by Obama to vote. I predict African-Americans will vote in bigger numbers than ever in history.

7. Pollkatz uses Ipsos as the baseline. They seem to be at the top of
the bell curve. Fox and Gallup are to the right.
