Blair Alone After Bush WMD Move
Inquiry leaves PM facing climbdown

George Bush is to establish a full blown investigation into the Anglo-American failure to uncover weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, piling the pressure on Tony Blair, who used Saddam Hussein's banned arsenal to justify last year's war.

Amid growing jitters in government circles in London, the White House announced last night that President Bush would sign an executive order to set up the investigation into intelligence failures in Iraq.

His action, which will pre-empt a possible inquiry by the US Congress, was coordinated with Tony Blair, who will face intense pressure to follow the White House's lead.

While Downing Street made it clear yesterday that it would resist such calls, the prime minister will prepare the ground for a climbdown this week when he acknowledges the need to come clean about the failure to uncover any banned weapons.

1. Tony Blair used such poor judgment backing AWOL....
I used to like him, he had qualities and
leadership abilities that AWOL could only
dream of, yet he failed his people by
dragging them into this awful mess.

I think he should resign.

4. 'I saw evidence'

"I saw evidence, it was categoric, on Saddam possessing chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction," he told BBC1's Politics Show.

Liar, liar, pants on fire!

There is nothing categorical about a dossier plagiarized from a graduate student.

8. And Blair is smart enough to have known better.
What possessed this guy? Did he really believe this crap or did he really think that someone had to run along side Shrub to make sure he could be reined in? (As if...) Was he deluded enough that he thought he could exercise some reasonableness on the Cheney crowd? I don't get it. And apparently he is still in touch with Clinton. Surely to goodness the 2000 showed Blair (and Clinton) that this crowd was ruthless and beyond any control.

I just don't get. I doubt we'll ever really know.

9. "I was misled...I'm a victim too..." wails bush
From the article:

A series of factors have persuaded Downing Street to change tack:

· the White House decision to change its stance on banned weapons, highlighted last week when Mr Bush all but cast himself as an aggrieved member of the public who wanted to "know the facts";

what happened to "fool me once shame on you fool me errrrr ummmm....?"

don't you love it when repugs take responsibility for their actions instead of painting themselves as a victim or blaming others

11. Happy twisting, Tony, in the ill wind you and Campbell helped blow.
I do appreciate Blair's articulate speechs after 911, which expressed and upheld the principles of liberal democracy at a time when the scared, little man who cheated his way into our Oval Office was tongue-tied with vapidity.

Maybe spare the dock, and settle for disgrace, shame and ignominy.
