Bill Clinton, given golden opportunity, fails to endorse Barack Obama
Source: nyd

WASHINGTON - Bill Clinton regrets some things he said - and didn't say - on the campaign trail. But one thing he still can't bring himself to utter: Barack Obama is ready to be President.

"You can argue that nobody is ready to be President, the former President told ABC.

"I certainly learned a lot about the job in the first year," Clinton said from Rwanda. "You can argue that even if you've been vice president for eight years, that no one can be fully ready for the pressures of the office."

That's probably not what the Obama campaign wanted to hear from the former commander in chief, whose role in Obama's election push and at the Democratic National Convention remains to be worked out.

It also could aggravate Obama supporters who were annoyed that Bill Clinton took what seemed to them too long to even have a conversation with the Illinois senator after he knocked Hillary Clinton from the race.

I'm starting to wonder what kind of Convention we're going to have with the Clinton's feeling slighted.

He has become a cartoon of what was a once great Presidency.

5. While I sort of agree...
that no one who hasn't been president is "ready", he could have at least said Obama is as ready as anyone can be. When you take a step into any new position, there's aways some learning curve as you take on new responsibilities, but all in all, he should have just said the right thing.

57. Yep- Bill said in many interviews that he supported Bush's decisions on terrorism and Iraq war
from 2001 thru 2006 and especially in nearly every interview for his high profile book tour in the summer of 2004. Even defended Bush from the criticisms of the left, being led at the time by the Dem nominee. Good old Bill - he told it like it is, eh?

18. What a sad, sad caricature he has become of the figure he once was.
My guess would be that this absolutely eliminates any even remote chance that Hillary would get the VP nod. Any presidential try she might make in the future will be tagged with her own husband's words that she is not ready either.

27. The only caricature.....
of what someone was are Clinton haters that have mastered the art of taking a general statement, and spinning it into what they want to believe, GOP style. The weakest link in the support Obama enjoys here at DU, are those who are determined to dissuade Clinton supporters from voting for him. Groups like PUMA run a distant second. The majority of us like Obama, or are at least going to support him with a vote, and that's only because most of his support understands the logic in healing a few wounds in order to achieve a goal is far more worthy than someone's overblown ego. More importantly, most Clinton supporters understand that every person of public distinction must put up with a less than desirable contingent, and as evidenced by Obama's own words, he has rejected such hateful rhetoric, and using the intelligence he is gifted with, understands that shooting yourself in the foot is counterproductive to the goal at hand. Unfortunately, there will always be those who have relegated the priority of winning in November, with a seeming physical, and mental addiction to Clinton hate. If it's unquestioning fealty to Obama they're after, it won't happen, and this is not the way to achieve it. If it's a vote for the Democratic nominee they're after, this is definately not the way to achieve it. Screaming at 18 million democrats, "You're fucking idiots for supporting the racist, corporate loving Clintons.', will only result in getting what they rightly deserve. Perhaps they can share the prize with PUMA. It damn well won't get any votes. Thanks.

32. Give me a break--Bill knew exactly what the point of being asked that question was.
There's no point in being coy about it. Just because I don't agree with all that the Clintons do does not mean that I hate them. I don't, but it just seems that those who worship at the Clinton altar cannot grasp that concept.

23. What do you expect from a Republican in the Lieberman tradition?

Look at Bill's record as president. Many things he pushed into law was the Republican agenda.

NAFTA, a republican couldn't have got that through a democrat house and senate, but Bill did!

1996-02-26 - Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act,, Republicans love to throw poverty stricken children off aid to Dependant children, just like Bill did!

Extra-ordinary rendition, Bill started that one also, Bill loves torture!

1994-09-13 - Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, part of an omnibus crime bill, the federal death penalty was expanded to some 60 different offenses (see Federal assault weapons ban), Bill loves the death penalty just like a republican.

# 1996-02-01 - Communications Decency Act, where Bill tried to censure the internet.

1996-04-09 - Line Item Veto Act, Unconstitutional as hell, but Bill loved the idea. He didn't like the constitution so he went ahead and brought us the BRADY BILL! Might as well flush the 2nd ammendment down the toilet at the same time!

# 1996-09-21 - Defense of Marriage Act, allowed states to refuse recognition of certain same-sex marriages, and defined marriage as between a male and female for purposes of federal law. Does that sound Republican also????

Clinton issued 141 pardons and 36 commutations on his last day in office on January 20, 2001.<24><77> Most of the controversy surrounded Marc Rich and allegations that Hillary Clinton's brother, Hugh Rodham, accepted payments in return for influencing the president's decision-making regarding the pardons.<78> Some of Clinton's pardons remain a point of controversy. does this sound Republican enough for you? Think King george II will do worse?

In a separate case, Clinton was ordered to pay $25,000 in fines to Arkansas state's bar officials and his Arkansas law license was suspended for five years. The agreement came on the condition that Whitewater prosecutors would not pursue federal perjury charges against him. Clinton was suspended by the Supreme Court in October 2001, and, facing disbarment from that court, Clinton resigned from the Supreme Court bar in November.

These and other things are found on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_clinton

May the Clintons rot in hell!!!

May a true Democrat take power January 20, 2009!!!

The press is conducting divide and conquer operations and this thread is a divide and conquer thread.

She'll never see the inside of the White House again, unless it's on a tour.

69. What did the Obama staff expect after calling the Clinton's racist?
I just knew the whole race card crap would be a show stopper. The Clinton's may be
a lot of things but they are not racists nor did they play on that deck.

70. Clintons' strategy was "hard working white people."
How long are Democrats going to re-live the primary? This is now about Obama against McCain.

72. Probably a good thing.
If Bill endorses Obama, it'll just give the Repubs ammunition.

73. Getting his wife in the white house was a backdoor way of him having a THIRD
term. Which no one ever dares admit or talk about. But he lost his chance to be co-president. He wanted a do over I'm sure.

79. Fuck him. I use to love "that" man. He will never regain his status. He continues to
diminish himself and Hillary.
