US: Bin Laden driver helped make 9/11 possible
Source: AP

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba - Osama bin Laden's former driver offered the terrorist leader aid and protection that helped make the Sept. 11 attacks possible, prosecutors said Monday in closing arguments at the first Guantanamo war crimes trial.

Prosecutor John Murphy said evidence in Salim Hamdan's two-week trial showed the Yemeni detainee played a "vital role" in the conspiracy behind the 2001 attacks.

"There's an intricate pattern in which this accused helped in the preparation of and transportation of the leadership that made this possible," said Murphy, a civilian attorney with the Justice Department.

But Hamdan's Pentagon-appointed attorney countered that the defendant was merely a low-level bin Laden employee who never joined the al-Qaida conspiracy against the United States.

"Not one witness said he had any role in the terrorist attacks themselves," Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brian Mizer said in closing arguments. "Mr. Hamdan is not an al-Qaida warrior."

9. Let's give credit where credit is due. This guy did too.....
and he got rewarded for it.

FBI Director Robert Mueller personally awards Marion (Spike) Bowman with a presidential citation and cash bonus of approximately 25 percent of his salary. {Salon, 3/3/2003} Bowman, head of the FBI’s National Security Law Unit and the person who refused to seek a special warrant for a search of Zacarias Moussaoui’s belongings before the 9/11 attacks, is among nine recipients of bureau awards for “exceptional performance.” The award comes shortly after a 9/11 Congressional Inquiry report saying Bowman’s unit gave Minneapolis FBI agents “inexcusably confused and inaccurate information” that was “patently false.” {Star-Tribune (Minneapolis), 12/22/2002} Bowman’s unit also blocked an urgent request by FBI agents to begin searching for Khalid Almihdhar after his name was put on a watch list. In early 2000, the FBI acknowledged serious blunders in surveillance Bowman’s unit conducted during sensitive terrorism and espionage investigations, including agents who illegally videotaped suspects, intercepted e-mails without court permission, and recorded the wrong phone conversations. {Associated Press, 1/10/2003} As Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) and others have pointed out, not only has no one in government been fired or punished for 9/11, but several others have been promoted:

9/11 possible (created steel that Michigan auto worker used).

Why do I feel I'm caught in a Joseph Heller 'Catch 22'\Franz Kafka 'The Trial' loop? Even those two illustrious authors would be (and in Heller's case, maybe is) thrown for a loop by the Lewis Carroll logic at play in this kangaroo court.

On the other hand, everyone knows Lyndie England came up with the torture techniques at Abu Ghraib all by herself :sarcasm:

Raw materials used by Pittsburgh steelmaker were shown to have been mined from the Earth.

Sentenced to orbit around sun for another few billion years until red-giant stage swallows it up.

not a good thing to do when your mouth is full of soda.

But thanks for picking up on my and the previous poster's drift . . . and I definitely think you win the DU award for "taking the long view" :)

On a serious note, if the driver is 'convicted' in this kangaroo court, that conviction will remove the final shred of honor the U.S. military ever had (as a defeater of fascism and 'great equalizer'). The U.S. military will have permanently and indelibly besmirched its reputation.

23. Deceased stars to be tried in absentia for creating iron molecules
Iron molecules created by said stars were gathered in early solar system and used in creating Earth. That iron was eventually used to create steel, made into automobiles, used by a driver for Osama bin Laden, thus playing a vital link in making 9/11 possible. The lawyer for several of the stars proclaims their innocence, stating that their iron was only used in Mars and Venus, not Earth.

24. If this guy was his driver for any length of time then he knows too much.
Privy to the calls in the back seat, knows where OBL was and WASN'T, knows what was said and what WASN'T, knows what happened and what DIDN'T. He simply knows to much to be interviewed or ghost a book.

25. Have the prosecution shown that OBL himself
was directly involved in the attacks?

IIRC the official FBI position is that there is no evidence of Bin Laden's involvement in 9/11.

27. So that's IT? That's all they've got on this guy?
Six years of holding this dude at Gitmo, no doubt torturing him to the brink of insanity and/or death, and THIS is the best these ass-clowns have come up with in the way of actual charges?

Seems to me that outside of anything but Bushitler's Keystone Kangaroo KKKourts, even with a public defender, this guy would be walking in a heartbeat.
