Democrats gain Latino support
Source: statemanjournal

Gains made by Republicans among registered Hispanic voters during the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections have eroded in the past two years, with more Hispanics reversing course in support of Democrat Barack Obama for president over Republican John McCain by 66 percent to 23 percent, a recent nationwide survey by the Pew Hispanic Center shows.

"There's a possibility that (New Mexico Gov. Bill) Richardson will be the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, so that's possibly what's drawing Hispanics," said Richard Harisay, chairman of the Marion County Democrats' legislative committee in Salem.

Calls by the Statesman Journal to the Oregon and Marion County Republicans were referred to John McCain's West Regional Campaign Headquarters in Nevada.

Rick Gorka, a McCain campaign spokesman for the western region, said they were perplexed by the report's findings.

2. Perplexed at loss of GOP support?
Hmm...demonize a ethnic group and single them out for collective persecution....split up families...

I wonder why that is not polling well....

3. Really? Check this Texas 2004 electoral map
Heavily Hispanic South Texas went to Kerry, not Bush.

4. A friend in Austin has seen many "Obamanos!" stickers.
As she said, when MEpublicans see Obama's name in verb form that has GOT to sting.

5. Latinos love Obama from what I'm seeing
An organizer told me of course they are voting for Obama though many were in favor of Hillary. They had to get to know Obama. They know he is on their side compared to Repugs. And guess what? Many of them have excellent organizing skills. This will be one of the stories of '08. I believe they will be to thank for getting Obama into office.

8. No doubt! They are so HIGH on Bush, and were on Reagan. Loved their right-wing pResidents
who promise all kinds of punishment to the Cubans who want the U.S. to leave them the hell alone, drop the embargo which affects people in other countries, which keeps life-saving hospital equipment from being sold to them, since even dialysis machines and some cancer treatment machines made in other countries contain parts which were copywritten in the U.S., and are covered by the U.S. embargo prohibitions, and they want wave after wave of terrorists from Miami to stop shooting, bombing, kidnapping, mudering Cuban citizens, destroying their crops, farm animals, and they want an end to unceasing saber rattling from right-wing psychopathic Presidents.

They have always continued to like Americans, but they have taken a real beating from our policies, and our right-wing unacknowledged history of violent terrorism against them.
