Clark Stresses His Military Credentials
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&ncid=536&e=7&u=/ap...

<snip>The retired Army general was introduced to supporters by Mike McClintic, who pushed Clark to the ground and protected him after Clark was shot during a mission in the jungles of Vietnam in 1970. McClintic was a 22-year-old Army private.

Clark, a 25-year-old infantry company commander at the time, had not seen McClintic since that day.

With McClintic by his side, Clark recalled the firefight.

"I heard this buzzing and my rifle fell out of my hand. I looked down to pick up my rifle and saw a piece of bone sticking out of my hand," Clark said. "I remember saying to Mike, I said, 'My God, I've been shot.' What I remember him saying to me is, 'Well, get down!'"

Shaking McClintic's hand at the rally, Clark said, "Mike, you saved my life."

1. He should wear his uniform for his campaign appearances

Is there any regulation or provision or something that would prohibit him from doing that, since he's "retired?"

2. You're kidding right?
You do realize we have a civilian government don't you? But I do see your point, the uniform is the only thing Clark has, without it he disappears. I can't believe that anyone would think that Clark's military experience qualifies him to be president. Luckily, most Americans have caught on and see the general for what he is, hot air spewing from an empty uniform. A man with ambitions much larger then his abilities.

3. The crusade is very popular, and for a country transitioning to military

dictatorship with a feudalist economy, I would think that the uniform would be the perfect way to remind voters that here is a man who knows how to do the job of imposing America's will and getting US properties around the globe firmly under heel.

8. Would you say the same thing about Kucinich, Sharpton, Lieberman....
Edwards and Dean??? Because by your definition, none of them are qualified.

12. You must be kidding bowens43
Please note, I am not making the following statement in criticism of you personally, but I do strongly disagree with your position on this matter, particularly since so much recent press coverage of the election has been biased and impacted by right wing propaganda.

Clark has a lot of credentials to lead the country: integrity, principles, vision, a Master's Degree from Oxford, experience as a White House Fellow with the OMB, a record of heroism in Vietnam (Silver Star and Purple Heart), executive and policy experience, fluency in at least four languages and the moral courage to take a stance unpopular with some in the Pentagon when he urged intervention in Kosovo so that "ethnic cleansing" of 1.5 million Albanians would not occur.

You might want to check out his website and take a long hard look at his progressive positions on healthcare, the economy, education, etc.,... My impression is that one big thing separating Democrats from the GOP is Democrats tend not to apply labels-- they keep an open mind and look at issues before jumping to conclusions.

14. You're disgraceful
I am so sick of the anti-military vitriol spewed at Gen. Clark on this board. You are an embarrassment to the Democratic Party. Show some respect, have some honor. What have YOU done with your life?? I bet Rhodes Scholar is not part of your resume. Pathetic... :puke:

4. So what?
Being a general is great preparation for being a dictator -- *not* a President.

10. Yup, just like Washington, Jackson, Grant and Eisenhower, all well known
dictators.

The simple answer is not always the right one, no matter how simple it may be.

5. Link is gone
For those that think a military background automatically disqualifies consideration of Clark, I would argue that someone with a military background has a better understanding of the proper use of military power. Unlike the current squatter in the White House.

I like what I hear Clark saying on virtually all the issues. He's more attuned to my attitudes than the other candidates.

And to dismiss someone with his background as insubstantial doesn't strike me as a particularly astute or accurate observation.

11. Well, let's see now
Clark calls for married couples with children who make under $50,000 a year to pay no income tax.

Clark plans to provide a $6000 per year grant for any young person who wants to attend college.

Clark wants to shift the tax burden to the rich, as defined as those making over $200,000 per year. He wants to lower the tax burden on the middle and working classes.

Clark will work for full civil rights for all Americans, even those Godless gay folks.

Clark will not appoint any judge to a court with a history of a political agenda contrary to the Constitution, even in regard to a woman's right to choose.

There's a lot more that he's been talking about besides his medals and his record in the military. Most people have heard him. Kerry not only heard him but has borrowed a lot of it himself.

Maybe you were star-struck by the four stars and just suffered some lost time experiences while listening to Clark?

7. One thing for sure.
Clark knows how to read intelligence reports.

Purely coincidentally, he is also to the left of all other dem candidates, even DK.

:)
