MULBERRY, Fla. (AP) -- Federal authorities say a central Florida construction company owner tried to hire a hit man to kill an IRS agent to avoid paying $300,000 in taxes.

A U.S. Treasury agent says in an affidavit that Randy Nowak in June agreed to pay an undercover FBI agent $20,000 to kill agent Christine Brandt, who was auditing him. Nowak thought the FBI agent was a hit man.

The affidavit says Nowak also was afraid the government would find $4 million he had stashed in offshore bank accounts.

Investigators also say Nowak discussed burning down the IRS office in Lakeland, Fla..

The stories from never-never-land never fail to dazzle. But, on the serious side, with bunker-busting debt, there should not be any surprises about the rollout of the IRS to bring in money and bring it in quickly.

Another gift from Congress and this admin, is the outsourcing of tax collections to "repo-man" types who are NOT held to IRS collection rules. We'll see if there will be 90s level IRS rage as the tax man cometh to collect to pay for this admin's bills.

3. Tax evaders and cheaters are encouraged by the GOP mouthpieces
Avoiding paying taxes by evasion and other forms of cheating is considered the "chic" thing to do among the well financed republicans. Cheating on your taxes is considered the good ol boy thing to do down in Texas, just ask Phil Gramm. It is no wonder these things happen, to bad this is only 1 person in the 2 or 3 percent who get caught while the other 97% just keep on cheating and hating America by their actions.

4. Another triumph for Homeland Security?
Or isn't this considered a case of terrorism because it didn't involve the burning of an SUV?
