Republicans Are Disturbed, Skeptical and Saddened After Viewing New John McCain Ad
Source: Yahoo News

Results of a national study conducted today among 320 Americans revealed that a majority of Republicans (61%), reported that they were disturbed, skeptical and saddened after viewing a new ad by John McCain, which likens Barack Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

The study was conducted among self-reported Democrats, Republicans and independents by HCD Research and the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion (MCIPO) to obtain Americans' perceptions of a new ad sponsored by Senator McCain.

"We are not sure whether the negative emotions expressed by viewers were related to their feelings about either candidate or about the way in which the message was delivered," commented Glenn Kessler, president and CEO, HCD Research. "However, we do know that the ad did not move voters and they expressed negative emotions after viewing the ad."

While viewing the video, participants indicated their levels of agreement by moving their mouse from left to right on a continuum. The responses were recorded in quarter-second intervals and reported in the form of curves. Participants were also asked pre- and post-viewing questions regarding their support for the candidates. 1. It's because the glamour this admin has cast is waning and people
can see behind it. People instinctively go For something than Against. Let the 20% have their
votes, but those who really are waivering (whoever the hell 'they' are) see that pointing
fingers at the newbie by the 30 year vet doesn't make sense. But let they keep playing
their little games, that veil will get thinner and thinner until they can't cast the
glamour anymore.

2. To be fair...
... viewers thought that if they turned the knob far enough to the left, a fatal shock would be administered to Hilton, Spears and McCain.

9. I don't know about that.
Look at Obama's support prior to viewing the ad and after.

It's not much of a drop, but it's a drop.

22. But support for McCain didn't increase at all. The only increase was in "undecided."
Temporary, minor impact that didn't help McCain at all.

4. What did they expect, nominating a senile old fuck
And to think, they thought he was the best choice.

10. It has to be negative campaigning that actually portrays your opponent negatively
People are very visual creatures in general, but never more so when they are watching television. The ratio of paying attention to the pictures to the words is probably 80/20. That's why an ad featuring pictures of a handsome and smiling Obama with huge crowds adoring him, juxtaposed with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears doesn't make him look bad, though some have pointed out a potentially troubling racist element (black man and white blonde women). For the most part, the pictures make him look good. That's what puzzles me about their negative attacks. Every one of them features a beautiful picture of Obama with his million watt smile.

24. The first time I saw it the sound was off
I glanced at the screen and saw masses of people, Obama smiling, and quick images of the two girls. Then I looked away from it (I was on the phone at the time). I thought it was some clip about celebrities attending a giant Obama rally! When I saw it on the nightly news later with the sound on it seemed like a pro Obama ad until the tag line, which is spoken fairly softly. I really don't think that it gives the intended effect at all.

11. Well, maybe they just need to watch the popular media more
They seem absolutely enthralled with McThuselah's ad, and are endlessly fascinated to see images of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton juxtaposed with a shot of Obama. Come on Republicans! Your party and your media are using all your favorite tricks!

At 61% = less than 200 people.

I think even yahoo can do better than that.

17. The "chatter" about the ad will change more minds, imo. And the chatter is definately going against
McCain. My bet is he will pull the ad soon if he hasn't already.

18. Not to mention sleepy.
Mr. Electricity has no chance of winning in November (though I'm not completely discounting the possibility of his being handed the keys to the White House). He's not a winner, and isn't going to win.

21. Hey, when Hillary tried the same gutter tactics on Obama, it backfired! Same thing!
Obama and his campaign people are ultra smart and they can easily turn a sleazy smear campaign into a liability for the other party. We've seen it before and we're seeing it now.
