Oral arguments set in Sen. Craig appeal
Source: Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS—Idaho Senator Larry Craig will get his next day in Minnesota's courts on September 10.
That's the date for oral arguments on his attempt to withdraw his guilty plea in an airport sex sting.
Craig was arrested last summer in a bathroom stall by an undercover officer who said Craig solicited sex. Craig pleaded guilty, but later said that was a mistake.

A Hennepin County judge refused to allow Craig to withdraw his plea. Now a three-judge panel of the Minnesota Court of Appeals will consider the Republican's case.

6. Heh, heh, heh, heh.
He said "oral."

Larry is the gift that keeps on giving. Too bad the Court of Appeals didn't schedule the arguments for the week of the convention... That would have saved Larry an extra, embarrassing trip through *that* airport, while giving all his Republican friends a chance to to drop by the Court of Appeals (the building is only a few blocks away from the convention center) and listen in.

7. Do we have a chance of picking up his 'seat' in the next election?

Even that sounds funny.... But does anyone know about that race?

11. I doubt Sen. Craig will be able to speak
during oral arguments. His mouth will be wide open, though.

16. That's priceless.
On a serious note, it's sad that he feels he has to hide being gay.

I'd rather he just be open and honest about it and not try to discriminate against people who are openly gay.

18. The Sen. Larry Craig Memorial Mosaic
I got a laugh from some fellow Americans with that one, when we were viewing the Antiquities Collection of the Bibliotecha Alexandrina--the "rebuilt" library here in Alexandria, Egypt. (Where I have lived for about 3 years now).

Description of the Craig Mosaic from Eternal Egypt.com:

The square mosaic portrays two naked men wrestling. One is a white man, with a large part of his head missing, and the other is a black man, with all of his body missing except part of his head.

The muscles on the body that remains are tight. The wrestler stands upright on the tips of his toes, trying to seize his opponent by the arm.

A remarkable expression of intense concentration and resistance is shown on the other wrestler's face.

A fountain behind the two wrestlers indicates that the site may be one of the public baths or a gymnasium.

The mosaic is distinguished by its strong expression and the accurately chosen colors. It possibly was part of a wider image that was surrounded by a decorative ornament with the colors of the sea.

The picture illustrates the lifestyle that prevailed in Alexandria during the first three centuries BC.

The Craig Mosaic is a fascinating object. It once decorated the floor of a Roman house in Alexandria, and was found completely by accident when the foundations of the new library were being excavated in 1994.

Another unexpected mosaic proved our ancestors loved kitsch as much as we do. It's a gorgeous mosaic done in the timeless Guilty Dog Genre, showing a dog who has just knocked over a Greek vase. (We know the dog is tame because he's wearing a nice red collar.)
