Edwards, Clark Emerging As Kerry's Rivals
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=703&e=5&u=/ap/20040201/ap_on_el_pr/polls_behind_the_numbers

WASHINGTON - John Edwards (news - web sites) and Wesley Clark (news - web sites) are offering the main challenges to John Kerry (news - web sites)'s dominance in the states that hold presidential contests Tuesday.

In South Carolina, where Kerry faces his toughest battle with rival Edwards, jobs and the economy were the top issues. Three-fourths said foreign trade has decreased jobs in the area, according to the CBS poll.

Four-fifths of South Carolina voters said it did not matter if a candidate was from the South, and three-fourths said it didn't matter if a candidate served in the military.

When all voters in that Republican-leaning state were asked whether they would support President Bush (news - web sites) or the Democratic candidate, they were evenly divided.

1. Let's have a good, clean, hard fought race.
I think a campaign will serve us better than a coronation. Edwards is my guy. But I like and respect Kerry. Not sure about Clark as much as I once was - but I'd like to see how he develops on the trail.

I hope this will go on awhile, as long as the candidates don't jump ugly. It keeps the excitement up, it keeps our message in the headlines, and it gives us a moving target for the Bushes.

And we will know that our candidate has been tested, has fought and won. And he'll be ready for the Big Show.

2. Keep it clean
Last some news people were predicting Kerry, would tear Edwards to thread to get him out of the race in S.C, however I haven't seen their predictions come true yet...

The good old boys and the media pundits want a Kerry/Edwards ticket. They are typecast according to their idea of the role.

3. The most important part of the article...
"When all voters in that Republican-leaning state were asked whether they would support President Bush (news - web sites) or the Democratic candidate, they were evenly divided."

Here is the link for the actual poll

"When all registered voters in South Carolina are asked how they would vote in November -- for George W. Bush or for an unnamed Democrat -- the race is surprisingly close. 45 percent now say they would vote for Bush, and 43 percent would support the Democrat."

2004 ELECTION VOTE
(Registered voters)

Resident Bush
45%
Democratic candidate
43%

Now I realize that this is registered voters instead of likely and that the election is still far away, but considering that * won South Carolina in 2000 with 57% of the vote being in a statistical tie at any stage does not bode well for his campaign.

P.S This is also considering the voting machines dont fix the election which I am afraid they might.

4. Also considering
the repugs haven't started their negative campaigning yet either which hopefully will backfire on them.
