"Shanghai Six" and the Collective Security Organization are to React to American Missile Defence Plans

by Yelena Studneva

Global Research, July 28, 2008
Voice of Russia

Russia is member of the post-Soviet Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which brings it together with Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Armenia.

Together with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the CSTO is considering a joint response to American plans for missile defences in Eastern and Central Europe.

Its executive head Nikolai Bordiuzha said this to the press after emerging from a Moscow conference of deputy CSTO foreign, defence and finance ministers and national security supremos: - The Organization sees the NATO defence infrastructure and American missile defences so close to its western borders as a serious threat to its vital security interests.

Shanghai Cooperation Council basically means the above CSTO plus China.

"The SCO member states occupy a territory of around 30 million 189 thousand square kilometers, which makes up three fifths of the Eurasian continent, and have a population of 1.5 billion, which makes up a quarter of the planet’s population." - http://www.sectsco.org/html/00026.html

2. I hope this puts the brakes on American military expansion. Fuck war and fuck the military.
I am sick and tired of the fake ass patriotism and bull headed moves by our military and government. You are NOT defending this countries freedoms and democracy, you are ruining it and helping to destroy the constitution. We need to pull back all our bases and conserve our money and fuel. We need to quit feeding the military industrial corporations blood money because it is immoral. We need peace and prosperity over war and domination. We need a few generations of Americans who haven't been killing others in policy wars.

5. Why not let the UK , France and Germany etc do the watching for a change?
We have enough problems in our country what with cops razoring people to death, high infant mortality, homelessness, deaths from child neglect ...ect. It's not our job to keep an eye on other countries. Do you see other countries like Germany Norway Sweden France Italy Canada Mexico Panama Brazil ect doing that? Who made us the world police? All we should be concerned with and paying for is the defense of this country and its boarders. I realize that many Americans love war love to bully others and kill people ...it's morally sick.

3. Fuck. An alliance of the 2 most powerful anti-West countries? NOT GOOD.
China and Russia getting in the way of the UN helping in Darfur and Zimbabwe has REALLY put them on my shit list, fuck them.

Once BushCo gets thrown out of Washington in 2009 and Obama gets us back in Europe's good graces the US and EU need to start playing diplomatic hardball with these two.

6. I'd say "anti-West" is too strong. Just non-Western (and anti-fascist, for sure).
It appears to be highly lucrative for some, but not for the many, in the US to provoke, to threaten them, when up till now they've just been interested in doing 'ordinary' business with us.

As for China's interest in establishing and extending relationships in China (based on its need for natural resources), they seem to have been going about it in a purely businesslike manner, so far, unlike the 'West's' militaristic, neo-colonialist approaches...

Who are the real 'warmongers' around here?

7. You are calling China and India ANTI-FASCIST? WTF?
China is pretty much a fascist state and Putin's anti-democratic nonsense needs no explanation.
