Prince William took part in Caribbean drug raid: British military
Source: The Associated Press

Prince William took part in a British navy helicopter raid that opened fire on a speedboat believed to be used by drug runners, the Ministry of Defence said Saturday.

It was the second time that the prince, known in Britain's Royal Navy as Sub-Lieutenant Wales, helped his crew mates on the frigate HMS Iron Duke go after suspected narcotics traffickers in the Caribbean as part of his program to gain experience in all branches of the British armed forces.

A military spokesman said the Iron Duke intercepted the speedboat on July 18 about 175 kilometres north of the Venezuelan and Colombian coastlines.

William was the lookout on the Lynx helicopter deployed to track the boat as marksmen shot out the vessel's engine.

3. The British and the Dutch have territories in the Caribbean and SA
and have routinely stationed naval ships there for decades. The war on drugs is international effort - when I did drug operations in the 1980's we routinely cooperated with European navies.
