BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A projectile slammed into a crowded residential area in Baghdad on Saturday, causing some casualties, witnesses said.

Iraqi police and U.S. soldiers surrounded a section of the Baladiyyat district in the east of the capital shortly after a blast rocked the area, and bursts of gunfire were then heard.

The U.S. military had no immediate comment on the incident. Soldiers and policemen at the scene gave conflicting accounts of the blast, attributing it alternately to mortar fire and rockets.

1. Just a sign of more success for Bush
Bush says these attacks just prove we are succeeding over there.
Sure looks like a quagmire to me.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A projectile slammed into a crowded residential area in Baghdad on Saturday, killing at least two people and injuring several others, witnesses and medical sources said.

Iraqi police and U.S. soldiers surrounded a section of the Baladiyyat district in the east of the capital -- an area long populated by Palestinian refugees -- shortly after a blast rocked the area, and bursts of gunfire were then heard.

The U.S. military had no immediate comment on the incident. Soldiers and policemen at the scene gave conflicting accounts of the blast, attributing it alternately to mortar fire and rockets.

Witnesses at a nearby hospital saw the bodies of at least two people brought there from the site of the blast, and residents said the two were a father and son who ran a kiosk in the area.

Witnesses at the scene said at least seven injured people

3. Whose fire and rockets??
From the article:

Soldiers and policemen at the scene gave conflicting accounts of the blast, attributing it alternately to mortar fire and rockets.

It's not stated whether the attack was the work of the "insurgents', or was another US attack to blast "suspected insurgents", or other US military detractors, out of their hidey-holes.

Meanwhile...more are dead
