Obama campaign: McCain flubs on Iraq timeline
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - Republican presidential candidate John McCain says Democrat Barack Obama is wrong about the Iraq war.

...snip...

Asked about Obama's contention that a Sunni revolt against al-Qaida combined with the addition of thousands of U.S. combat troops that were sent to Iraq contributed to the improved security situation there, McCain scoffed.

...snip...

"Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening," McCain said, referring to the U.S.-backed revolt of Sunni sheiks against al-Qaida in Anbar province. "I mean, that's just a matter of history."

The problem with McCain's statement — as Obama's campaign quickly noted — was that the awakening got under way before President Bush announced in January 2007 his decision to flood Iraq with tens of thousands of additional U.S. troops to help combat violence.

1. McCLazy... we have already had one disasterous
mentally lazy president who dictated bellicose policies without even trying to learn facts. I really had no idea how intellectually lazy and bankrupt McCain was (never paid that close attention) until this campaign.

4. Confusing Afghanistan and Iraq and so on....
and yet the main stream press hasn't picked up on this :eyes: or more correctly is not only NOT covering it (in his supposed area of strength: foreign policy) but are actively covering up for him.

5. This is a really poorly written article.
The first sentence in an article about McCain getting facts wrong should not be about Obama. Secondly, the whole article is phrased as if Obama's campaign was making a political charge against McCain, rather than that McCain made an unequivocal factual error.

I can't believe the kind of kissyface coverage McCain gets in articles like these, and yet he has the nerve to say the press is "in love" with Obama.

6. CBS manipulated the interview tape as well
The bigger story is that CBS altered the interview. K. Olbermann said:

McCain's response didn't survive the cutting room floor, but
Couric's question did; and CBS replaced McCain's incorrect response with one he gave to another question.
