Lieberman praises pastor repudiated by McCain
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, July 22 (Reuters) - One of John McCain's most prominent supporters on Tuesday praised an evangelical leader whom the Republican presidential candidate repudiated after a string of controversial remarks were made public.

Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent who frequently campaigns with McCain, said pastor John Hagee's support for Israel outweighed the remarks that led McCain to reject his endorsement.

Lieberman said he had been urged not to speak to Hagee's group, Christians United for Israel.

"The bond that I feel with Pastor Hagee and each and every one of you is much stronger than that, and so I am proud to stand with you tonight," Lieberman told several thousand members of the group, which urges U.S. support for Israel.

1. I say this as a Jew, 'kay?
Somewhere between 2000 and today, Lieberman's brain was sucked out of his skull, leaving behind only an Israel-shaped chunk of neural refuse.

21. To bad he doesn't get it that Jews must either convert and become
'perfected' or die in the Rapture/Armaggeddon falacy they believe in. Lieberman would be dead if they get their way, the stupid ass. God, I do loathe this man.

19. Supporting Hagee is not putting Israel first! - unless you mean first to be blown up at Armageddon!

3.The Rev. John Hagee and his fellow Christian Zionists are good for the Jews.

Hardly. Are Israel and American Jewry really so desperate that we must cozy up to people whose messianic dreams entail having us all killed or converted to Christianity? Hagee, the founder of Christians United for Israel, and his ilk believe that Israel dare not cede any territory in the quest for peace, claiming that the Bible promised all of the holy land to the Jews. In other words, Christian Zionists look at the trade-offs that Israel must make to achieve peace -- and hope to thwart them. Then again, peace is not what these folks have in mind; they hope that Israel will seek to permanently expand its borders, thereby goading the Arabs into a war that will become the catalyst for Armageddon and the second coming of Christ. Do your ambitions for Israel extend beyond turning it into the fuel for the fire of the "End of Days"? Then Hagee and company are not -- repeat, not -- your friends...

7. Actually, Pastor Hagee fits all the attributes of the Antichrist.
There's certainly nothing Christlike in his message.

10. Someone wants very badly to be on the Republican ticket, and somebody badly wants him there.
Having Lieberman as running-mate more or less washing Hagee's feet would be a sneaky way for McCain to reconnect to the people he alienated by repudiating the pastor. Luckily this won't happen, for a variety of reasons.

13. PLENTY - you're right. And I hope so, too. Though I don't think
Lieberman has many fans left here at all. Lots and lots of buyer's remorse from those who were foolish enough to vote for him last time.

15. I gues the question becomes --
-- why on Earth would they have "voted for him last time"?

How many last times do there have to be?

16. Well
First I want to be clear that I was not among those who did.

But there was a definite feeling that Lamont was sort of looney, and untested, and people generally voted for the devil they knew. Also, the GOP didn't really put up a candidate - all the GOP voters went for Lieberman (now there's a surprise).

22. Habit. I think he's become worse over the years.
And voters are reluctant to vote out an incumbent from their own party, because there are advantages in seniority, and no guarantee that a more progressive candidate would carry the whole state.

17. Joe, Joe, Joe, you poor ignorant fuck.
You do realize that all these Hagee followers want to see you and your "people" writhing in a pit of lava-hot fire, right?

Your team killed their Jeebus. You lose. You don't get to sit at the throne or whateverthefuck they believe. They want to see you all suffer eternal damnation.

You dumbfuck.
