Ron Paul's political event moves to larger venue (during RNC convention)

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Supporters of maverick Rep. Ron Paul who are organizing a rally as an alternative to the Republican National Convention are moving their crosstown event to a larger venue.

The Rally for the Republic featuring Paul — the Texas conservative failed in his bid to win the GOP nomination for president — is scheduled for Minneapolis' Target Center, home of basketball's Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Target Center can accommodate at least 15,000 people for such an event. Planners for the Paul event had originally considered a college basketball arena that seats about 11,000 people.

Paul is scheduled to speak during the 10-hour rally on Sept. 2, local coordinator Marianne Stebbins said. That's the second day of the four-day GOP convention.

2. Around my neck of the woods
more folks will be interested in Paul's convention than the GOP one. HUGE Ron Paul signs are still up, and I have yet to see ANY McCain signs or even bumper stickers. I hope Paul does his best to spoil the GOP's convention and that he convinces his followers to vote Libertarian this fall.

Anyone know if his convention will be televised? Do you think the GOP will try to suppress him in some way?

4. "convinces his followers to vote Libertarian this fall." Will be great if Bob Barr is given a
speaking slot at the "convention".

From most of the polling I see, Barr is doing a great job of negating the Nadar vote and then some.

13. I've seen exactly one McCain sign
One of my neighbors has the ONLY McCain sign around. Her son is a marine and currently lives with his family in a small RV in their driveway. The sad thing is that they had it decorated to say "Freedom Express". She had a Hillary sign in the yard until Obama claimed victory and it was REALLY weird when she had both a Hillary AND McCain sign in the yard at the same time!

3. Ron Paul should
Ron Paul should start saying publicly that HE is the real Maverick. This might be the start of something big.

5. Minneapolis (home to Target Center) is way hipper than St Paul...
I hope he gets a huge crowd and just pisses the fuck out of the McLame 'thugs.

6. Ron Paul is right about a lot of things, but
it's a shame he doesn't see the need for universal health care, a solid social safety net, etc. Otherwise, he holds a much more ethical and honest stance on economics issues than most libertarians out there (i.e., he's not a pro-globalization neo-liberal).

8. I like most of his foreign policy (no nation building, non-intervention, etc)

But the guy is a major, major corporatist (AKA free market libertarian.)

I despise Ron Paul and am deeply suspicious about libertarian ideals, but some of his sheeple (sorry-strong, free-willed individualists who all just happen to sound like brain-washed sheep when they start dithering on about the Magical Powers of the Free Markets) are really useful .

Idiots...I just convinced one to vote for Bob Barr recently.

10. Kudos to you!
I'm doing the same thing. With some folks, you know you're wasting time trying to get them to vote Dem. But I'm finding it really easy to convince these conservatives to vote Barr, and I look on it as helping our cause.

9. Wouldn't it be a hoot if he outdrew McCain
With McCain looking like he was auditioning for a remake of "Grumpy Old Men" with Poppy Bush on the golf cart, I wouldn't be surprised.
