Shaken Daley says he's sorry (Chicago Mayor, Scandal)
I think the litmus test for ANY of the Democratic senate candidates should be whether they'll keep Patrick Fitzgerald as US Attorney (currently probing the Plame outrage). Be it Dem or Repuke, Illinois has to be one of the most corrupt states in the country.

Snip:

Angry, emotional and embarrassed, Mayor Daley apologized Friday for not cleaning up the scandal-ridden Hired Truck Program and vowed to clean house, if need be, to get it done.

"I am embarrassed. I'm angry and I'm disappointed because I feel I have let the people down," a shaken Daley said in his first public comment about the scandal.

"I am responsible for everything that happens in city government. . . . When problems occur, and change is needed, it is my responsibility to ensure that it is complete. In the case of the Hired Truck Program, that did not happen and, for that, I apologize."

Daley acknowledged he had "shaken" the public's trust in him by allowing Chicago's $40 million-a-year trucking gravy train to keep rolling and paying clout-heavy contractors -- some of them with mob ties -- to do little or nothing. But he insisted that he, too, had been let down -- by Cabinet members who kept him in the dark.

4. He apologized and took responsibility, unlike *
Who hasn't apologized for anything and takes no responsibility.

Yes, Daley explained how it happened, but he still took responsibility.

6. What is this??
Are trucks leased by the city from private contractors?

What are the trucks used for?

Privatization?

9. privitazation, maybe it's cuz i live in chi
that i made this button.

here, privitize means- give contract to your mob buddies, and leave no evidence behind. sometimes the work actually gets done, but never without plenty of fat to skim.
yea, the trucking firms were paid to provide trucks that did nothing.

8. While maybe not THE
number one corrupt state, it IS in the top 10. One need look no further than the Illinois Department of Corrections which allows murderers to go on WORK RELEASE yet denies a burglar...then there is the nepotism, the politics, the lies, the spin, the whatever. Believe me, I know of what I speak...and the lack of honor and integrity start (and ALWAYS did) in Chicago!
