Bush Nominee McMillan Dies From Gunshot
Oilman Colin McMillan, who was awaiting Senate confirmation as Navy secretary, died from a single gunshot wound, and investigators said Friday it might have been self-inflicted.

"All indications are it could be suicide, but we're not going to reach that conclusion until the investigation is over," said District Attorney Scot Key of Alamogordo.

McMillan was nominated as Navy secretary by President Bush in May. He was 67.

He died around lunch time Thursday and his body was found at his southern New Mexico ranch by two employees, said Roswell Mayor Bill Owen, a family spokesman and longtime McMillan employee. The 55,000-acre Three Rivers ranch is on the edge of the White Sands Missile Range.

McMillan had run Permian Exploration Corp. in Roswell, chaired Bush's New Mexico presidential campaign in 2000 and served as an assistant defense secretary under the first President Bush.

1. So when do we start spreading rumors that Bush had him killed
like they did with Clinton and Foster?

6. to be fair, shouldn't we claim that Pickles pulled the trigger?
I remember hearing plenty of Rushbots who were apparently off their meds claiming that Hillary killed Foster herself.

3. Knew too much - demanded appointment - Bush said "take care of it"
G Gordon Liddy misunderstood Nixon and heard similiar to the above and left meeting planning on killing a fellow - they got to him before he left town and stopped the wheels from turning - but with this Whitehouse?

20. Maybe he was being 'forced' into the administration?
No one else wanted a job that couldn't be done honorably under Bush so they made this guy take it? Just an idea.

4. Interesting that when
someone with damaging info of the BFEE is found with a gunshot wound, they don't even wait for the body to get cold to rule it a suicide. Funny how this time they say they are actually conducting an investigation. Curious, huh?

5. Perhaps they are investigating because NM is not Bush country
They've got a Democratic governor and perhaps some local officials are Democrats.

7. IIRC, standard police procedure is to presume homicide
until it's proven to be a suicide.

Granted, I got that from reading too many 87th Precint paperbacks one long, hot summer - so I could be way wrong.

Any law enforcement DUers out there?

8. Okay, remember all that DIGGING in the area by the Houston oil co
for documents.....office documents .....

The Houston company had purchased the oil company that apparently buried the documents. My memory is very sketchy. But I am sure an enron-relatd company was involved somewhere in this.....I think.

I wonder if Permian Exploration was also involved in the burying of documents?

anyone know?

9. He was a "Bush Pioneer"
http://www.tpj.org/pioneers/colin_mcmillan.html

McMillan runs an oil explorations company and is chair of Roswell’s First Federal Savings Bank. His 55,000-acre Three Rivers Cattle Co. ranch ranks him as the state’s 23rd largest landowner—edging out ABC’s Sam Donaldson. When New West Research did an open-records request to learn which landowners were asking the federal government to exterminate wildlife on their land, Colin McMillan’s name was on the list. He asked Uncle Sam to expend the public’s purse to snuff out coyotes, mountain lions and black bears on his ranch. McMillan sent this request to the same federal government that lists the black bear as a threatened species. To deal with the Russian bear, President Bush appointed McMillan as an assistant secretary of defense in ‘90. McMillan made a failed bid for the U.S. Senate in ’94. He considered running for Rep. Joe Skeen’s seat in 2000—until Skeen decided to run for reelection.

10. Also: Chairman of Bush's NM presidential campaign in 2000
McMillan, 67, of Roswell, runs Permian Exploration Corp., and was chairman of Bush's New Mexico presidential campaign in 2000. He served in the Marine Corps from 1957-72 and was an assistant secretary of defense for production and logistics in the early 1990s under Bush's father's term when Vice President Dick Cheney was the defense secretary.

But I'm sure his experience in the oil industry had NOTHING to do with his appointment. NOTHING.

22. The relationship between the Marines and the Navy...
As it was once explained to me, is only temporary. The Marines are still learning to walk on water, at which time they won't need the Navy.

Hey, who am *I* to argue with a tattoed retired Gunny?
Hmmm....Sure seems to be a lot of people dieing from "self-inflicted" gunsot wounds this week, doesn't there?
