Pro-war 'Vets for Freedom' ads roll out in Hampton Roads
Source: The Virginian-Pilot (my hometown paper)

WASHINGTON

Hampton Roads voters are among the targets of a five-state, $1.5 million ad campaign launched today by a group of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans who argue the next president should “finish the job” in those countries.

A 30-second television spot produced by “Vets for Freedom,” which claims 25,000 members in all 50 states, is the forerunner of what the group expects to be a 12-state campaign that will cost in excess of $10 million, said Pete Hegseth, the group’s president.

The group is focusing largely on states with large veterans populations, Hegseth said. In Virginia, its ad is running in Hampton Roads and the Washington suburbs.

The commercial released today does not mention any candidate, but its upbeat view of the security situation in Iraq closely tracks that of Republicans like U.S. Rep. Thelma Drake of Norfolk, who is facing a challenge from Democrat Glenn Nye.

1. NEVER trust anyone/anything that equates the Afghan war with the Iraq War.
Words to live by.

4. A skeptical patriotic vet like me
might suggest they are getting conservative fat cat money and are nothing more then a pro-mccain front organization. And I might add, based on their fiduciary secrecy they are obviously ashamed of their actions and their acquaintances and their values.

3. This VET says the last president should never have STARTED those wars
and I challenge any member of that group to question my patriotism.

And I wonder why that wonderful patriotic group refuses to say where their funding comes from.

5. So the Wealthy Fat Cats found Some Vets to Roll Out for Them
to keep their profitable war going at the expense of our soldier's lives and American's tax money. Isn't it fun feeding the rich?

8. When the MSM Was Reporting there Would Be No Swift Boating This Year
They meant they were ramping up to do ten times as much of it as last time,
with wall-to-wall media coverage, of course.

6. Not to sound unappreciative...
But how many of these vets are signing up for another tour? I doubt that a single one is going back to Iraq any time soon.

7. Americans don't want to "finish" the job, they want an "end" to the job
I think it's going to take more than lame 30 second ads to convince them otherwise.

9. Finish the job?

Send 'em back, then.

Exchange them for the men and women in-country who do NOT want the action to continue.

10. Why do I get the feeling they ran the same "upbeat view" 4 years ago?
What does finish the job mean?

11. Finish what job? Make Iraq the 51st state? Wtf are we doing in Iraq anyway?
There were no Iraqis on those planes on 9-11.

It's just a fucking oil grab.

I have many Army friends and NONE of them support the Iraq war.

We fucked up and it's too late to finish the job in Afghanistan. Pakistan, maybe.

13. "Finish the Job" - More classic, empty, meainingless, soundbite drivel meant to get Joe and Jane
Six Pack nodding in agreement and repeating ad nauseum.
