Shelling Hits U.S. Embassy in Liberia
Artillery shells crashed into the U.S. Embassy compound and refugee-crowded neighborhoods around it Friday, killing at least 12 Liberian men, women and children and wounding more than 100 people in the bloodiest barrage in days.

The onslaught brought new, desperate cries from Monrovia's trapped people for a multinational peace force - promised for weeks, but with no firm deployment date yet set.

"I want to tell (U.S. President) George Bush to do something hurriedly, very fast and quickly. People are dying every day," cried Emmanuel Sieh, 28, one of frantic crowds spilling into the streets in front of the U.S. Embassy after the worst of the barrage.

Government forces blamed the attack on rebels, who are fighting to oust President Charles Taylor, a warlord-turned president behind 14 years of near-perpetual conflict in this West African country founded by freed American slaves in the 19th century.

1. Everyone should read this article & then ask *:
Why aren't these people as important to you and your administration as the Iraqi people?

By what gauge do you measure your compassion?

Just curious, george.

2. shrub just recently promised "help is on the way" and now, you
can watch another Rwanda massacre unfolding right before your eyes...

worse, this will create an enormous instability in that entire region of Africa, all the neighboring countries and more...many years of successful peacekeeping efforts are all going down the drain, for the whole region...the country of Liberia was formed because of OUR slave policies...and shrub promised to send help and is now breaking another international promise...

yesterday, I met a group of Liberian people protesting in front of the White House...and no reporters were covering their plight...these are people who have immigrated to America and become American citizens...and now they stand outside the locked up White House, with snipers peering down from the rooftop...begging bush* to stand by his promises...

for months, shrub has been told to send help...just a little leadership for a whole international coalition of British, French, and others...shrub will "shrug" it all off...claim he didn't know anything about it...for lack of a tiny effort....

I guess shrub already got his photo-ops with Black people in African nations, and that's enough for his campaign brochures....

4. Diety above, my heart goes out to them all.
Do you have any local media contact information for the DC area? Maybe if enough of us blasted them, they'd cover the Liberians at the gate?
