Joe Bruno wanted to know if quitting would affect U.S. probe - source

ALBANY - Before stepping down as state Senate majority leader, Joe Bruno contacted the feds to see if the move would help end an ongoing FBI probe into his dealings, the Daily News has learned.

Bruno's lawyer placed the call in recent days, a source close to the senator said.

"It was in the context of if he does this now, does it impact where you all are?" the source aid.

Bruno's team did not get a reaction, the source said.
