CSU faces rejecting 20,000 students ...budget cuts force a reduction
The California State University's 23 campuses must brace to turn away 20,000 qualified students this fall because of probable budget cuts, Chancellor Charles Reed said Tuesday.

Cutting 5 percent from CSU's enrollment of 409,000 is the only option available without sacrificing the quality of education, Reed told the CSU's board of trustees at its bimonthly meeting in Long Beach.

"We can admit students, but we won't be able to offer them the classes," Reed said. "That is pretty much the worst thing we can do, and it also clogs up the system because the students who are there can't get out."

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proposed budget for fiscal 2004-05 would trim $240 million -- or 9 percent -- from CSU's spending. That translates, university officials say, into fewer classes and services and would mean a reduction in enrollment. It's part of a sweeping budget reduction the governor has proposed to repair California's multi-billion-dollar deficit.

15. Well, actually, you can.
Maybe not yet; but he's likely to become very unpopular as he has to live with the conditions he unfairly blamed on Davis, as well as with the consequences of his choices in those conditions.

12. you are right of course!
Hell, I sure did NOT vote for Gropenazi either! So, "WE" deserve this government in California that has been inflicted and installed upon us? Why might I ask?

This was another STOLEN ELECTION by brainwashing the masses into believing another fallacy. There is nothing new about this technique and I wonder, how many voting machines were "tampered" with? How many more Ahnuld movies will be shown on television every day (has anyone else noticed how many of his old movies are being advertised and shown on television NOW?)?

When YOU realize that a lot of people in California did not vote nor support the gropenator, maybe I'll consider giving some thought to your posts. Other wise ... to you! :grr:

:dem: :kick:

5. exactly, but I bet you almost anything arnold will get reelected.
the reductions are just tax hikes in reverse, but it's something the people would have never let davis do.

10. CSU not the place for PhDs
Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 12:34 PM by yellowcanine
CSU is the kind of place people go to get training for all of those wonderful high tech jobs the Bush economy is going to provide.

Well what do we have?

1)Not enough spots for the students.

2)No jobs anyway, even if there were space.

3)Students can't afford the higher tuition anyway.

A Bush trifecta!

14. Let's see how long Arnie stays popular.
Don't just look at the 20k who will be turned away, nor just at their families and friends. Look at the 400k enrolled, and their families and friends. Add in UC and, especially numerous, community college students, who will also be affected (particularly the latter, in that many CSU students transfer from community colleges). CA had a big deficit no matter who was governor; but the electorate bought themselves these troubles when they replaced Davis with Terminator. But now the circus is over, and the tent is collapsing.
