BREAKING NEWS: Jim Johnson steps down from VP vetting post in Obama campaign
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 01:57 PM by brooklynite
Source: MSNBC

Jim Johnson, who had been leading Obama's VP search committee, has stepped down from the campaign.

"Jim did not want to distract in any way from the very important task of gathering information about my vice presidential nominee, so he has made a decision to step aside that I accept," Obama said in a statement. "We have a very good selection process underway, and I am confident that it will produce a number of highly qualified candidates for me to choose from in the weeks ahead. I remain grateful to Jim for his service and his efforts in this process."

be better Vetted so this can only help as a learning experience.

3. I'm not sure if this was a smart move.
I know the McCain campaign was trying to make an issue out of some of Johnson's business deals or loans or whatever. I don't think the story had any legs but maybe the Obama campaign knows something we don't. I guess Obama is just trying to make sure that nothing contradicts his theme of new politics and cleaning up Washington but at the same time it looks sloppy.

21. I am not saying the guy didn't deserve to be let go, but
It is just the damn double standard this country lives by.

And yes, I hope we hold our candidates to a higher standard regardless of what the scum on the other side is doing. Just hope America sees the difference and wants real morals.

Just blowing off steam over the double standard shit.

10. Thank goodness for that

If people woke up to the fact that Fannie Mae is the biggest mortgage scam in history (after Countrywide), Jim Johnson it's former CEO would be behind bars.

14. Ditto
Like McWar's current campaign manager Rick Davis who has clients doing business with Iran.

while during his campaign McWar himself said the US should divest from companies that do business in Iran. And get this, McWar voted against an Iran Divestment bill last year that would heavily penalize US companies for doing business with Iran. Obama was one of the bill's sponsors.

15. Very good move.
I was a Clinton supporter, but always felt that she should have kicked out Penn long, long before she did. I'm glad that Johnson is gone, but again, he should never have been considered for a post with an administration that is asking for a new way of doing things.

This move encourages me.

16. Why the campaign didn't vet the vetter more carefully
is something I'm having difficulty understanding. It seems like such a given that Johnson would be scrutinized negatively.

And people were asking what the new politics is....

And he's exactly the type of blowhard Party insider that the Obama campaign is well rid of.

20. Johnson = plutocratic scumbag
And he was an especially bad choice at this time.

As the housing bubble deflates, you don't want someone on staff who's been feeding at the trough filled by Countrywide, the subprime mafia.

And so: out, scumbag. Think smarter next time, Barack.
