Federal immigration officials have been alerted to an "Israeli Mafia" whose members are spearheading the mass movement of Russians to Canada through Israel. "This is a Russian group that has set up shop in Israel," said Margaret Gass, of the Canadian visa office in London, England. "We should be concerned about the increase of Israeli-Russian applications here."

Visa officials said a so-called "Israeli Mafia" is behind the recruitment of Jews in Russia, who are allowed to emigrate to Israel if they can prove they're Jewish.

Once in Israel, they obtain from Mafia contacts forged documents to apply to come to Canada as businessmen or skilled workers. Hundreds are accepted here yearly.

'WHOLE GAMUT OF CRIME'

This is "essentially a phenomenon transplanted from Russia," Gass said in an e-mail to Ottawa that was obtained this week through an access-to-information request.

1. Some of these immigrants are not Jewish at all

I remember a recent article about Russians IN Israel that formed antisemitic groups - so they probably faked their Jewish origin.

Interestingly enough, a slight majority of Jewish emigrees from Russia does not move to Israel, but to Germany (about 20.000 per year).

so, when the article atates "they obtain from Mafia contacts forged documents to apply to come to Canada", it makes me wonder who these "Mafia contacts" are.

3. Netanyahu PROMISED they would stop!

so I am sure they have. Just as our CIA has stopped the same practice I'm sure... Yeah right.


The Canadian Foreign Minister, Lloyd Axworthy, has ordered an investigation into allegations that Israeli secret service members are still using Canadian passports for covert operations.

Israel undertook to take steps to end the practice in 1997, after Israeli agents were caught carrying doctored Canadian passports.
