GOP having trouble finding votes to override gun veto (Wisconsin)
Republicans hunting for votes to overturn Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle's veto of a concealed weapons bill in the state Assembly Tuesday appear to be coming up short, putting the vote off until Thursday at the earliest. <

The move resulted in the unlikely spectacle of Democrats, including Doyle himself, urging Republicans to stick to their original schedule and hold the override vote Tuesday. The bill would let licensed citizens carry concealed weapons in the state for the first time in more than 130 years. <

Tuesday's action was in marked contrast to what happened in the Senate last week, when Republicans set the vote just a few hours before Doyle's State of the State address. Democrats successfully blocked the move until the next day, when the Senate voted 23-10 to override. <

"Why did the Republicans who wanted to have a vote so badly they had to schedule it on the day of the governor's State of the State all the sudden decide they didn't want to vote today?" asked Rep. Spencer Black, D-Madison. "What's happening is very simple: They don't have the votes." <

1. Or maybe Repugs don't WANT it to pass. Read the Patriot Act lately?
They want to take away citizen's guns....the GOP's dirty little secret.

3. No link handy at the moment, but do a google on Patriot Act I & II
along with the key words gun control and you should find plenty. There were sections of the P.A. that were passed, embedded in other legislation already. Does anyone really believe these Bush fascist control freaks want citizens to maintain the right to bear arms?

4. Oh, no. The repigs want it to pass

My state repig senator is the one who sponsored and believe me he is a real nutcase. The NRA has been all over this state propping up this legislation. A few dems crossed over in the senate because of NRA tactics. But there aren't enough cross-overs in the Assembly so the likelihood that the veto will be overridden is exceedingly slim.

This is nothing new in Wisconsin. The chickenshit repigs in the state don't want to bring up any legislation for a vote until they have brow-beaten enough representatives to votes for it. They think it might look bad if they didn't succeed in their radicalism.

on edit: in other words, you'd be giving them way too much credit for having a thinking brain.
