Pocket of Ohio Republicans voted Democrat in primary
Source: AP

COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) -- Newly released numbers show that about 8 percent of the Democrats who voted in Ohio's March 4 presidential primary previously voted Republican.

Secretary of State records obtained by The Associated Press on Monday from most of Ohio's counties show that four out of five voters who switched parties in the election went from Republican to Democrat.

Republican John McCain's presumed presidential nomination was nearly secure when Ohio had its election. About 173,000 Republicans asked for a ballot in the highly competitive Democratic race between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Overall, the number of Democratic votes was more than double the number of Republican votes.

10. Oh, hell, no.
Not when you get excuses like "Rep, but want Dem" or "One time only," just two of the excuses poll workers reported hearing on primary day.

3. A large number in Kucinich district crossed over to vote against him
My pet Republican couldn't wait to tell me he voted Democrat for the first time in his life.
I quizzed him a while to see if he would tell me who he voted for.
1. He voted for Hillary
2. He voted for Joe Cimperman the opponent running against Kucinich.

I asked him if it bothered him that Cimperman didn't even live it the district. He hated Kucinich that much it didn't bother him.

We all know that Dennis won that contest.

19. PA is closed primary, but it didn't help this time.
With the unique situation of having the R nomination wrapped up, it gave the Rush-bots time to legally re-register as D's. Nothing anyone can do about it.

7. And that was Hillary's margin of victory.
Add this to Indiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania
and one can see just how really weak Hillary was and still
is across the country.

8. this is illegal in Ohio yet almost unenforceable
Ohio Revised Code 3513.20 Effect of challenge to voter at primary
Before any challenged person shall be allowed to vote at a primary election , the person shall make a statement, under penalty of election falsification, before one of the precinct officials, blanks for which shall be furnished by the board of elections, giving name, age, residence, length of residence in the precinct, county, and state; stating that the person desires to be affiliated with and supports the principles of the political party whose ballot the person desires to vote; and giving all other facts necessary to determine whether the person is entitled to vote in that primary election. The statement shall be returned to the office of the board with the pollbooks and tally sheets . . . .

Once again, the right wing in this country have proved they do not believe in democracy, but only in winning despite a lack of support. The want us to "get over it" and falsely claim that "both sides do it" but it really is shameful. But again, it is also near impossible to do anything about it short of changing our election laws.

9. They said since it was enforced uniformly in each county they wouldn't enforce it at all.

If other crimes were enforced differently in different jurisdictions would they fail to enforce criminal prosecution in those crimes as well?

11. Why isn't this a conspiracy?
to disrupt the election process? A bunch of people on the orders from one man get together to disrupt an election? I realize you can cross over in these states but an organized attempt seems like that would be over the legal line.

An Obama-Hater for Clinton, Temporarily

BY JASON HOROWITZ
MAR. 5TH, 2008, 3:10 PM

Meet Todd Appelbaum, a 46-year-old from Columbus, who wore a shirt that says “Osama for Obama” to the Clinton campaign’s election-night event in Ohio last night.
The white t-shirt, with an image of Barack Obama dressed in traditional Somali garb, is adorned with a blue Hillary Clinton button, although Appelbaum is not what one would call a real Hillary Clinton supporter. “I voted for Hillary today,” he said, “because I’m concerned that, God forbid, Barack Obama will beat McCain. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

Controversial Clinton Guest: 'Osama for Obama'

ABC News' Kate Snow and Eloise Harper report: A controversial party guest was spotted at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's election night party in Columbus, Ohio Tuesday.

He was hard to miss. He was the one wearing the "Osama for Obama" t-shirt.

Columbus resident Todd Elbaum told ABC News his friend makes the t-shirts.

Elbaum did not hold back on his views of Obama when he was interviewed by ABC within full view of a Clinton staffer.

"The truth is he was born a Muslim, his father was a Muslim, his mother married a Muslim after divorcing his father. His grandfather was a Muslim. It doesn't matter. But what does matter is when Obama said he was never a Muslim. He was a Muslim. He was born a Muslim. He was a Muslim for six years of his life," Elbaum said.

APPELBAUM HAS TIES TO CONTROVERSIAL RW EVANGELIST ROD PARSLEY:

Patriot Pastors

By: MARILYN H. KARFELD Senior Staff Reporter

-snip

Todd Appelbaum, a 44-year-old native Clevelander who has lived in Columbus for the past 25 years, attended the event along with a number of Republican government officials, including Blackwell. Former chairman of Columbus's chapter of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Appelbaum is now active in a Jewish-Christian coalition that works to support Israel and other issues.

Evangelicals are loving patriots

Appelbaum, who brought three Orthodox rabbis to the pastors' gathering, attended in order to meet Parsley and to develop deeper relationships between the Jewish community and conservative evangelicals.

"Our freedoms are threatened, our Judeo-Christian beliefs are threatened by radical Islam," Appelbaum says. "If western civilization is going to be saved from these evil forces, who don't share our values, it has to be done through Christianity. There are only 14 million Jews throughout the world. There are two billion Christians. They are the only ones who can stand up to radical Islam."

Our SOS in OH is a Dem so I want to give her the benefit of the doubt as to why she didn't enforce this offense.

Exposing this cross-over voting was the basis of the movie "American Blackout" which details how the GOP went after Democratic Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. I don't understand why we allow this tampering to occur.

12. Election workers are trained differently in different counties.
Which points to why 1) the poll worker training should be streamlined and consistent so that established law can be more effectively enforced; 2) we need closed primaries. The Ohio general assembly was supposed to begin looking into the latter but I don't know the status of that.

The law -- especially if it's pretty clear as it is in this statute -- should not be left open to 88 kinds of interpretation or enforcement.
