Cherie Blair reveals how Tony used miscarriage for Iraq spin
Source: Telegraph

Cherie Blair discloses today that she "could not believe" news of her miscarriage was released early for political reasons, such was the obsession with media management among the former Prime Minister’s inner circle.

In the latest extracts from her memoirs, Mrs Blair says she spoke to Alistair Campbell, the Prime Minister’s media chief, within hours of the miscarriage in 2002.

Mr Blair and Mr Campbell told her that they would be announcing news of the loss to avert false speculation about an early invasion of Iraq.

The extracts from Mrs Blair’s memoirs – Speaking for Myself – also reveal highly personal and embarrassing details about the couple’s private life, leaving very little to the imagination.

3. Unsurprising to Brits
It had started to dawn on us about halfway through 2000 that that Blair admin was literally obsessed with media manipulation.

6. Before that....
.....the whole spin thing was obvious back in 1997, but back then Blair was at the height of his powers and people were more prepared to overlook that sort of thing.

7. Point, and he had more MSM backing then
I think most of us were so relieved to be rid of the Tories that we probably didn't look that closely at Blair for the first few years.

4. Blair would spin anything
At his own funeral, he will keep sticking his head out of the coffin to tell the media advisers how to present it so as to best promote his 'legacy'.

8. i remember cherie coming to the door in her bathrobe when tony b first got the pm gig...
a couple of bobbies were bringing congratulatory flowers to the blair's door the morning after the election results were in- and cherie opened the door in her bathrobe, wither her hair all mussed like she'd just gotten out of bed- she probably didn't realize how many news cameras would be out there- it was really funny...i looked for it on you tube, but couldn't find it posted.
