Scarborough wants tear gas in streets at Democratic Convention

CNBC business analyst Mark Hanes delivered the economic news on MSNBC, then asked host Joe Scarborough to explain why Hillary Clinton isn’t being given more credit for narrowly winning the primary in Indiana, where some early polls had showed Obama leading.

Scarborough explained that Clinton failed to meet recent expectations and that, just as with corporate earning statements, that’s what counts.

“You don’t want this to end, do you?” Hanes asked in conclusion.

“Of course not,” Scarborough replied. “I want the Stones’ Street Fighting Man played in the background while I monitor the streets of Denver with tear gas, the ghost of Abbie Hoffman rising up over the auditorium. Yeah, baby, I want a fight — on both sides”

First, he has his history wrong.In 68, the Dems were in power. You want irony? At the relatively peaceful Miami Convention, look at what Richard Outhouse Nixon said at Miami in 1968:

"When the strongest nation in the world can be tied down for four years in Vietnam with no end in sight, when the richest nation in the world can't manage its own economy, when the nation with the greatest tradition of the rule of law is plagued by unprecedented racial violence, when the President of the United States cannot travel abroad or to any major city at home, then it's time for new leadership for the United States of America."

Take out one or two words ( "five" for "four"; "Iraq" in place of Vietnam; "unprecedented trampling on civil rights" for "unprecedented racial violence") and our nominee could say the same.

Second, if there is rioting, what Scarborough said could be construed as inciting violence.

I don't think that he has an idea of the underlying rage that is out there. In many ways, right down to the split between the two Democratic nominees, there are strong similarities, with economic dispossession replacing the draft as a motivating factor. I am very concerned about this summer on a number of levels. There is a lot of anger - both well directed and misplaced - out there.

For a person to view potential violence at either convention as cause for glee - and that is exactly what that he is doing - is reprehensible.
