Clinton will stay in race, senior advisers say
Source: The Hill

Senior advisers to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that she would continue to fight for the Democratic nomination despite losing ground to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) Tuesday in the race for delegates.

Howard Wolfson, Clinton’s campaign communications director, said there has been no discussion within the campaign about dropping out.

He said that the West Virginia primary scheduled for May 13 would be a critical test and that Clinton expected to do well there.

...snip...

Clinton’s chief campaign strategist Geoff Garin said Clinton made up ground against Obama in Indiana and North Carolina and among white voters.

I'm inclined to believe that this is mostly posturing to keep things going (and cash rolling in) while a negotiated ending can be worked out with the Obama cmapaign, rather than a threat of a fruitless "tilting at windmills" effort until the bitter end.

11. Isn't that what clinton did after Obama won Iowa? She said something to the effect
she would expect this from Mississippi, but not Iowa

13. No, she was talking about the fact that Iowa had never had females in
Congress or the Governorship, or something like that. She said it before she lost IA.

17. True, but she was implying Iowa wouldn't have a problem with that, but Mississippi would
"I was shocked when I learned Iowa and Mississippi have never elected a woman governor, senator or member of Congress. There has got to be something at work here," she said, theorizing it may be the risk-averse nature of a state built around agriculture.

"I think not only do I have to bring people to me, I have to maybe reassure people here maybe more than I do in New Hampshire, which has had a woman governor," she said.

"I think Iowa poses a special burden, or a special obstacle to me because when you look at the numbers, how can Iowa be ranked with Mississippi? That's not what I see. That's not the quality. That's not the communitarianism, that's not the openness I see in Iowa

9. I agree. It sounds like something that would come from the Clinton campaign
when Obama won Iowa, clinton made a similar type reference to Mississippi

32. I agree...
I guess West Virgina men like Cryus Vance, President Carter's Secretary of State and Chuck Yeager, the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound are hillbillies.

Who knew?

P.S. Almost forgot, Pearl Buck, Nobel Prize winner, is a hillbilly too.

34. Her melt down has hit critical mass Quayle like
This is getting embarassing to watch. Everyone knows she has lost but she can not see it. Sad to watch someone go into melt down and lose any stature they had, to be a laughing stock by their own hand. The political cartoons out there are getting brutal, Quayle like.

30. If Hillary doesn't score 86% on her WV "critical test," she fails.
Edited on Wed May-07-08 06:52 PM by rocknation
In fact, she has to win ALL SIX of the remaining contests with 86% of the vote to catch Obama. 60-75% of WV and KY may give her headlines, but if Obama gets as little as 30%, she doesn't pick up any ground.

6. agree with the 'keep the cash rolling in' part
and how can she quit when 'everyone knows the Clintons aren't quitters, it's not in their vocabulary'

i've heard that damn quote so many times that it almost seems that she has to stay in or be labeled the biggest hypocrite in the world.

it must suck to be known as the 'person who will never quit' when there is no way to win.

7. That's so funny ...
As of yesterday afternoon, 'the critical test' was Indiana and NC.

And she can't even afford to have the goalposts moved any more - Acme Goalpost Movers are suing her for non-payment, and are refusing to take her calls.

there comes a point where you cut your (and everyone elses) losses

Frankly, I think someone like Biden should have been picked in the first place

But he wasnt - Biden's run is OVER

Every day Hillary clings to this, McCain gets a cakewalk

20. I'm neither for Hillary nor for Obama.
Edited on Wed May-07-08 11:55 AM by JDPriestly
But, I'm certain that neither Hillary nor Obama can win in November without the support of the other candidate's voters. Isn't it time for supporters of both candidates to end the jibes at one candidate or the other?

We know who has won, who will win, and we all want that person to lead the Democrats into the White House in November.

John McCain is not an option. He is not the kind of principled leader that our nation needs. He does not understand economics. He is just repeating what he has been told with regard to economics.

It's time to gather ourselves together, lick our wounds and get on with the enormous task of winning in November. We have a lot of work to do, and we are going to need every single Democrat working together to get it done. It's time ot end this backbiting and nastiness. If you can't cooperate, take a time out. Sit in your corner for a while and think about how great our country will be with a Democrat in the White House.
