Indiana's Lake County has tradition of late vote tallies
5/6/2008, 11:39 p.m. EDT
The Associated Press

GARY, Ind. (AP) — Indiana's sometimes-stepchild county held the balance late Tuesday in deciding whether Hillary Rodham Clinton would gain a key primary victory.

Lake County, the state's second-most populous with nearly 500,000 people, had reported no results as of 11 p.m. EDT. A large number of absentee ballots and a record turnout delayed the tallies, and polls there close an hour later than much of the state because Lake is in the Central time zone.

In the rest of the state, Clinton was leading 52 percent to 48 percent.

1. Why the Hmmm? They were not only open late, but a very large turnout.
Indianapolis just finished up about an hour ago. Add that hour to lake, and here we are.

3. So she went ahead and gave one anyway???
I feel desperately sorry for you and her if it turns out to be an Obama victory come Wed. AM. It's not an impossible outcome at this moment in time! Your excuse however is very lame, and delusional.

7. He has been pushing that idea all along
I've seen him in action. He has been promoting the idea that Gary is going to bring in the state for Obama for several months now. I've seen two of his speeches as rallies for Obama where he has promoted a very aggressive GOTV campaign for Obama.

Heck, usually Gary barely votes at all in most elections, less than 20% participation. This time around participation is over 70%.

13. Why would she give a victory speach if she might lose?
Looking at the numbers right now, they're 17k votes apart with 50% of the second largest county's votes still to be counted. Looks too close to call for me, but if I were a betting man, with the numbers where they are at this very minute, I'd put my money on Obama winning the state.

17. Lake County is controlled by the Hillbots ...

Clay is the only local mayor who campaigned for Obama. The rest of the Lake County machine (most famously McDermott) were pulling for Hillary.

12. It's almost safe to call IN for OBAMA!
Lake County is going 2-1 for OBAMA, with 55% of votes in, he's up by 21,000.

Assuming this trend continues, OBAMA should win IN by about 5,000-6,000.

buh bye, cankles...

15. OH BULLSHIT!!!
Obama was trailing by only 15,000 in a county that is going 2-1 for him, and suddenly, he's down another 7,000??????

Looks like Clinton's pulling a few tricks again...

18. I'm suspicious ...
Edited on Wed May-07-08 01:48 PM by BearSquirrel2
I'm suspicious of the timing and meaning of the Lake County returns. Lake County is run by the Hillbots.

Then again, Hillary did do a lot of drinking in Crown Point. So !?!?!?
