Clinton Wins Indiana, Obama Takes N.C.
CBS News Projects Democrats Will Split Tuesday's Big Primaries

EVANSVILLE, Ind., May 6, 2008

(CBS/AP) CBS News projects that Hillary Rodham Clinton will win the Indiana Democratic primary and Barack Obama will win in North Carolina. Clinton pulled off an Indiana win in what was a virtual must-win Midwestern state. With 57 percent of the votes being reported in the state, she was leading Obama 54 percent to 46 percent.

Obama's win mirrored earlier triumphs in Southern states with large black populations: Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina among them. With 19 percent of the votes in North Carolina being reported, Obama was leading Clinton 62 percent to 37 percent.

CBS News exit poll results show that most voters in both states made up their minds a while ago. Only 17 percent in Indiana and 14 percent in North Carolina decided in the last three days. Twenty-four percent in Indiana and 18 percent in North Carolina decided in the last week.

Late deciders backed Clinton in Indiana by a margin of 62 percent to 38 percent for Obama. In North Carolina, Obama won late deciders by a much smaller margin of 49 percent to 48 percent

2. NBC says it is too early. Hillary will probably win, but there are models
that are POSSIBLE for an Obama win. This is per Chuck Todd.

6. Indiana's results may be questionable
I was listening to WOWO AM 1190, the Fort Wayne talk station that carries Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the rightwing radio talkers, and several republicans called in and admitted that they had voted for Clinton as part of Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos”.

7. Yeah well after all these months of spouting "his" math
methinks that Chuck Todd doesn't want to end up wrong and have people realize that he is nothing except another idiotic pundit who thought he found his niche.

9. It's possible, and I'd say likely, but CNN has Clinton at 52%, Obama at 48% with 72% of the vote in.
Still a ways to go.

11. What about the voters dropped from rolls in the NW part of the state?
aren't 1 million -plus votes going to be important in a race this close? what's going on with that? is it being looked into?

ya, that's what I thought...

I pray Obama pulls it out of the bag on this one, I am SO done with this fiasco

14. Even if she wins IN, she lost ground today.
Edited on Tue May-06-08 09:45 PM by Thor_MN
NC has 115 delegates, Obama is going to take a larger portion of those than Hillary might take of IN's 72. She would need to win IN by 30 points just to stay as far behind as she was this morning.

24. Am I the only one wincing at CBS' choice of words...?
Why does Clinton "win" Indiana and Obama "take" North Carolina...?

Given the respective margins, I would think the phrasing is reversed... if "take" should be used at all.

27. why???
Becuase Hillary WON a very close race. Whereas Obama TOOK North Caralina because it was not a contest (becuse he had such a large margin)?

Or maybe Diebold controls the headlines, and everyone is crazy racist??!!??

Geez, people really are *insane* about Clinton now. Clinton can still win *BY THE RULES*. The rules say super-delegates to choose whoever they want. Face it. You might not like it, but it is a possibility.

30. I can put you in the "no" column, then?
And my impression had nothing to do with Clinton (or Diebold? not sure where they enter into it), but with the media *perhaps* again making the race appear closer than it is. Obama *won* North Carolina by what would normally be called a landslide, while Clinton "took" Indiana by a nose.

25. Will she binge drink in celebration?
If she's willing to chug-a-lug six straight Blue Ribbons while jumping on a trampoline, I might consider voting for her.

But only if.

26. It's time for Presidential Candidates on Trampolines!
Which might work out better than "Bowling for Superdelegates." But when I start flashing back to The Man Show, I know it's probably time for this whole thing to be over with and to get down to the real business.

Who cares how tired you are of???

What a bunch of insane people on this board now. The caucus process is okay, but the super delegate process is not? Thanks arbitrary!
