Somali Islamists say 2 leaders killed in air strike
01 May 2008 04:44:33 GMT

MOGADISHU, May 1 (Reuters) - Two senior leaders of
Somalia's Islamist movement were killed when four
planes dropped bombs over the house they were staying
in early Thursday morning, an Islamist commander said.

"It is true that infidel planes bombed Dusamareb. Two
of our important people, including Aden Hashi Eyrow,
were killed in the incident," Mukhtar Robow Adumansur,
a senior commander of the Islamists, told Reuters.

The leaders belonged to al Shabaab, the military wing
of a sharia courts movement ousted at the end of 2006,
that is on a U.S. list of terrorist organisations.

"An American plane bombed the house of al Shaabab
leader Aden Hashi Eyrow," one resident told Reuters.

Air raid 'kills Somali militants'

The head of an al-Qaeda-linked group in Somalia has
been killed in an air strike, according to reports.

The pre-dawn attack reportedly targeted the house
of Aden Hashi Ayrow - head of the Islamist al-Shabab
group - in the central town of Dusamareb.

An unknown number of other militants were also killed,
reports say.

Al-Shabab - considered a terrorist organisation by
the US - is the military wing of the Somali sharia
courts movement ousted in 2006.

1. Alleged head of al-Qaida in Somalia said killed in airstrike
Alleged head of al-Qaida in Somalia said killed in airstrike By MOHAMED OLAD HASSAN, Associated Press Writer
MOGADISHU, Somalia - The U.S. military said Thursday it launched an attack against an al-Qaida target in Somalia, and an Islamic insurgent group said the head of the terror network in the African country was killed in an overnight American airstrike.

The spokesman for the Islamic al-Shabab militia, Sheik Muqtar Robow, said the strike killed Aden Hashi Ayro, another commander and seven others at his house in the central Somali town of Dusamareeb, about 300 miles north of Mogadishu. Six more people were wounded, two of whom later died, said resident Abdullahi Nor.

"Our brother martyr Aden Hashi, has received what he was looking for — death for the sake of Allah — at the hands of the United States," Robow told The Associated Press by phone.

U.S. Central Command spokesman Bob Prucha said the U.S. military attacked al-Qaida militants but would not confirm whether it was an airstrike and would not say specifically who the attack targeted.
